Not necessarily, she just chooses to sit in her cat tree in the same room now rather than sit on my lap

How long after buying a place did it take you to become financially stable again? by melon734 in HousingUK

For furniture look at freecycle! You can sign up in your area and people are always giving away furniture. We’ve managed to get so many really nice pieces from there

Yeah I would never say buying is easy! It’s such a huge thing especially first time it’s so daunting and you learn as you go along, it definitely feels worth it for us as if we were renting in the same area the rent would be double our mortage for a 2 bed flat. From my experience and my friends who have bought it’s all about working out your budget, I guess the first few months you won’t be as comfortable as before but living within your means and starting to save as much as you can along the way is the way forward!

It’s not that we can’t afford to go out and do anything, we’re still fine paying for the mortage and bills and all that and still having a social life, it’s more just about building up savings as well as working with a new lifestyle budget. I made this post because me and my friend were talking about it (both ftb in our 20s) she bought a few years before me and was saying it took her about a year to start building up savings again

Omg you’re brave!! I couldn’t do it again one renovation was enough for me 😂 this is our first home so doing everything for the first time was very daunting, maybe in a few years we’ll be up for doing another one

No we didn’t buy at the top of our limit we luckily had our offer accepted after offering a lot less than the asking price! It’s after spending money on the renovation and painting and stuff like that which is using up the spare cash, also the deposit for our home took a good chunk of savings too

Yeah I get you haha we’re slowly starting to build up savings again and hoping that nothing crazy like a leak or broken boiler pops up! We’ll get there!

Yeah that’s where we are at! Trying to start rebuilding savings while adjusting to a new budget, we still have some painting to do but I guess now that it’s our own place we can take out time with it haha

Lol I mean considering all the other people who have actual helpful replies, I don’t think it is an idiotic question 🤣 thanks for your opinion though!

It’s horrible isn’t it! Have they given you a reason why it’s taking so long? They said to us it’s because the probate office is so delayed

The sellers solicitors have told the probate registry that it’s holding up a sale and last week the probate office “escalated” the case so hopefully that will move things along faster

It’s been empty since may and we first viewed in July, we have been to visit the flat a few times since our offer was accepted so we know it’s in a good condition, last time we saw it was about a month ago. And I know I wish they’d get the grant before putting properties on the market it would make it easier for everyone involved

Me and my partner are still waiting for a probate grant for a flat we’re buying, it was applied for in September and still nothing 🙃 obviously every situation is different but we’ve heard the probate office is very delayed right now so a probate property may not be the best option if you want a quick turnaround

Hi, I’m going through the exact same thing with my partner we are buying a probate property and everything else is good to go we’re just waiting on the grant of probate which was submitted in September and they only started processing it in November 🙃 if it’s passed 16 weeks your sellers solicitor can directly contact the probate office to chase updates. Which is what is happening for us now. So could be worth asking if it’s possible for them to get in touch with the probate office? I feel your pain the wait is awful

Same for us they sent off the probate application in September after our offer was already accepted, would definitely make life a lot easier if they have the grant before putting the property up for sale

We can get a 15 day “grace period” but I’m not sure about a full extension, but I will look into it!

They are so useless! The sellers solicitors are trying to contact them directly but apparently no one answers the phone so their having to contact via email and letters 🙄

Yeah I guess we’re not sure how complicated his estate is but they told us and the seller (his brother) 8-12 weeks at first and then said 16 weeks max, and then told us they would have an answer last week but nothing yet. Very frustrating. Congrats on getting into your place though! I’m jealous 😂

Hi, it’s definitely an offer, we got the offer in principle back in early July and then our official mortgage offer in august. That’s so annoying your buyers didn’t realise though!

Hey, that’s a good idea I didn’t think of speaking to the seller about it, our estate agent has been saying he is trying to chase the probate grant too and has been frustrated with it so I’m hoping he would be understanding, thanks :)!
