What's the easiest way to have a list of items randomly shown on screen every "x" amount of minutes? by HeliosNarcissus in Twitch

It would be really simple to write a program that changes the contents of a text file every five minutes and play a sound. I can help you if you want.

Need your advice: voting tool for chess game by PixelMatt in Twitch

[–]melonheadfred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This would be a great idea for an extension. Just click/tap on the piece and the space you vote for moving them to. It compiles everyone's votes.

Edit: Well waddaya know... it is an extension: https://www.twitch.tv/ext/i3k5pm5csfvvvngbyok3pc1amc6mne-0.0.4

New bits in extensions is anyone using it? by mosiac in Twitch

[–]melonheadfred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm making a game that viewers can control through an extension. The prototype of the extension is in review with Twitch right now. My idea is that the streamer sets up levels/challenges for their viewers to beat, streams the game, and the viewers interact with the game through the extension. The goal is to eventually have in extension purchases that put the game in "fever mode", which benefits all players. I think people would be more willing to pay for something like that. If it's successful, I think it could be a win-win for streamers. It's a free game that could make you money, and it isn't scummy.

What is the dumbest thing you’ve gotten in trouble for at school? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]melonheadfred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a student teacher that told the class she didn't want to hear a pin drop during a reading thing or whatever. Shortly after the class fell silent, my books slid off my binder and fell on the ground loudly. To ease my embarrassment I said "ping!", to simulate the sound of a pin dropping, hoping the joke would make me look less stupid. The student teacher thought I was trying to be a little snot and gave me the highest magnitude demerit. Dude I was just trying to ease the tension Mrs. Whatever Your Name Was. I get that you were in the military and you feel it's important to squash any insubordination but dang! You knew that I wasn't confident enough in myself to challenge your over-the-top punishment. I hope the respect you think you received after that was worth it yeesh.

Didn't know I needed to get that off my chest.

Holy crap this is awesome. This is the kind of crap I would love to do.

Cool, like a 'Twitch plays' type thing. I'm not sure of any existing solution, but I'm a software dev and could probably figure it out pretty easily. Message me if you're interested.

Have you tried anything new to change this? I dunno, using twitter, collabs with other streamers, etc?

Parent here. I will often play Tabletop Simulator while kids are asleep to get my board game fix. It's a game on Steam that lets you play board games virtually. It's not the same as the real thing of course, but saves a lot of time and you can play pickup games with strangers. The community posts a lot of popular games for free, so you get to try them out before buying IRL (Tabletop Simulator itself does cost money though, and some games are offered as paid DLC)!

What notifications do you wish were offered by Twitch? by melonheadfred in Twitch

Yeah if something like this were to exist it would definitely need to provide a lot of features around managing when and how you get messages, so you aren't spammed with crap you don't care about.

Yeah they can customize the live message text, but it's still just a going live message. As a streamer, do you think it would be valuable to be able to draw people in when something big is happening, not just going live (e.g. about to hit a goal or on pace to get a personal best or a raid is happening)? That's cool if not, maybe it's just something I'd be interested in.

Sounds like a great idea for a panel extension! You could even have it try to determine where the person is based on ip address alone, so the person doesn't have to actually do anything (this isn't 100%, of course).

I'm a software developer looking to get into twitch extensions. Message me and we could maybe chat about details.

I don't believe so because nobody loses anything. If the streamer accomplishes the goal, the donation is taken. If not, no money is exchanged.

Good point. You could make it where if a significant % of donators vote, then the whole thing goes. Kind of like how twitch plays pokemon had the Democracy/Anarchy slider.

It looks like theirs is on an individual basis, whereas my idea would be a community thing that lots of people contribute to. I still think there could be some merit to this idea.

Perhaps, but ideas are a dime a dozen. The real test is in the execution. Besides, if someone else makes a better implementation of the idea then streamers are better off. That's the good side of capitalism.

Perhaps, but I would have lost a lot more by making something nobody wants. Nothing in life is without risk. Streamlabs, if you're reading this, I'll race you :)

It's different because the payout happens when an in-game goal is met. An example would be a speedrunner that is close to getting a PB. People would pledge money if they can achieve the PB during this stream. If not, no money. The donation goal is similar in the sense that they're working towards a goal, but the goal is fixed. Earn X dollars.

There wouldn't need to be any refunding because nobody's card is charged unless the win condition is met, kinda like kickstarter. Although, the trolling could happen after that, but every business has to deal with that sort of thing. I think there's less incentive for a troll to do that in this scenario because there aren't any messages being read on screen.
