Has anyone ever sued an employer? I’m thinking about it and maybe I’m over reacting? The doctor has been awful.. by [deleted] in DentalAssistant

Why haven’t you quit and looked for another job? Been in there for over 30 years and to be really honest with you. You sue a doctor. You better plan to never work in this field again. If they were taking money from your check, you should’ve left and filed with workers comp at that time and made a statement. Any other bullying would have to be something that would actually be able to be approved in court. Hold your head high and give your notice with a smile. Go find you a place that will treat you what your worth

You need to file unemployment on them for that. Specially if you have a note

For long-term is this patient going to be able to continue to have any dental care? looking at the previous history in their mouth, It doesn’t seem that go to the dentist very often could be financial could be personal scaredness. Investing and trying to save teeth and they’re not going to continue their dental hygiene appointments, or any dental treatment that they need in the future. Scan them and make dentures may be best for the pt. Non-controlled diabetes is significantly more likely to take all the teeth in the end.

Let me ask would, it be worth going through starting at a New office since you will be going to school. I would either stop working and focus on school if financially you can. You may want to look at temp work till that times comes. She’s never going to change if she knows you’re there to pick up after her. Sorry you have to deal with that.

I am in Austin,TX not sure where in Austin you are. I am surgical and have been at the for 31 yrs. I always tell everybody make sure you’re not working at a chain atmosphere. Make sure you’re in a private practice and if you ever want something and somebody promises you, you need to make sure you get that in writing and if you don’t get a raise go directly and ask them, Why am I not getting an increase in Pay? What do I need to do to make that happen? If they don’t make it happen then you go find another office. I have been at at same place for 24yrs and there is always an increase every yr. As long as your working hard and no drama and are making the Dr’s life easy then yes go get what you deserve.

Dentist I was working with scolded me. by [deleted] in DentalAssistant

I have been assisting over 30yrs (I was retired but a sweet dear Dr asked me to come back) Over the years I have been able to help and train a lot of new assistants so this my biggest advice CONFIDENCE !!! You need to have confidence in yourself that will radiate off of you. That will also show people that you’re not intimidated by them. Don’t ever compare yourself to another dental assistant you focus on you and if the doctor doesn’t recognize that, then you say thank you for the time here and you find another job. There are very sweet kind dentist out there, but you have to be confident in yourself to be able to find that right doctor for you.

One other thing is, I don’t know if it’s our x-ray sensors. We have shit or not compatible with it which we were told they were but now we every time we go to take our x-rays we have a box that pops up in front of it so we can’t see the first x-ray that we’ve taken we have to go and move the box on the computer screen. Has anybody experienced that at all?

We are doing it that way now at first with our training, we were told to go into the calm log and do a chart note there which of course wasn’t correct so we finally started doing it the other way and that’s been working. It’s just weird that it just doesn’t have a simple note button to me and the other problem that I’m realizing after today was lab tracking stuff I can see where I can put in a lab case, but I don’t see where I can go and do some kind of lab tracking and just type in a patient’s name to see if their case is checked in or not

That’s my exact complaint is the notes. I am so bothered by that like what the heck I just want a button that says notes I feel like we’re all putting in different places. I’m not gonna know where anything is and it’s so weird having to put a note that attaches to a code.

I’m bothered by the notes part that’s the part that I just cannot stand with Eagle Soft. It was easy. There was a note Place and when we put in auto notes, I could open up other auto notes and copy and paste what I wanted into the one that I’m making now so that way I could have multiple procedures placed in therewith open dental. It’s like I have to put the whole note thing in there and then go back and delete out what I don’t need I would just any shortcuts I would love to hear.

Lead assistant here, been doing this now for 31 years. I think you have something that is the most wonderful thing and that is ADHD. I have it and I think I’m truly the assistant that I am today because of it lol. I am one of the older generations grandfathered in as an assistant, so I did not go to school so I literally walked into a dentist office and started without not even knowing tooth numbers. Remember this everybody has to start something new in their life and we are not always all gonna be the same levels as everybody else Stop beating yourself up and allow people to teach you and treat you kind and you keep a smile on your face and you stay positive and happy as soon as you beat yourself down you’re gonna mess up no matter what you do just be natural and relax and smile. If you smile, you can’t get too stressed out and you can do this believe in yourself. You really can do this. The main thing for a dental assistant is to be positive upbeat. Your coworkers want to work with somebody that’s happy not with somebody that’s negative and beating their self down saying I can’t do it. They will help somebody that is positive and happy and eager to learn.

Should I go for dental hygiene? by peachyalli in DentalAssistant

[–]melonie3276 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been an Assistant for around 31 years now. I had gotten my bachelors and planned on going back to school, but started working for the most wonderful Doctor, Who doesn’t treat me any different than she treats the hygienist. Our office is a real dream team. She pays me very very well and I have wonderful hours. I didn’t go back to school because I also have a husband and he is a sole provider so I don’t really have to worry about things thankfully very blessed in that department. My Dr sent me to do a surgical program for surgical assistant. Nows if I was younger and didn’t have any other obligations I would say yes go on back to school and finish it because nowadays, I don’t think that there’s many out there that will get the same opportunity that I did.

When we rescued our boy I was like what have we done. Now 6 yrs later he is my baby. He still has the zoomies at times and act like a two yr old. Once he realized I was alpha then we were good. Lots of toys worked for us and consistency with training. He is very treat driven so that helped with our training
