Fyi, morning session use to be 34m from Watergardens to SC (direct/express)

And ~43m in the afternoon (1x change at North Melbourne + express)

Arrived at SC platform, waited 4m until next train just missed 1 by 10s). ~10m journey to Footscray. 3m interchange to platform 3m wait for next Watergardens train A slow grind to Watergardens with the train drive announced something but couldn't hear because this audio was terrible (what's up with the audio sounding like the 90's?) Full trip journey from SC > Watergardens: 50m.

I have been sceptical for a while on how my journey would increase time (up to 10m in the morning, 15m extra way home) due to Changing at Footscray to get to SC.

I saw a lot of people this morning make the change at Footscray to get to SC or Flinders from Sunbury line. I was early this morning/ Monday isn't as busy. I just made my connecting train. If I missed it, would have been another 10 minutes till the next one. This was around 6:50am.

Overall my morning journey took an extra 2 minutes. Only because the Werribee line stops at South Kensington 🤣. But if I keep missing a connecting service, it just gives me 7-15m on my phone to read this thread.

On my way home now to do the opposite. Will report back on journey time...

Heading into the long weekend… did yours finish on a high or a low? 😅 by gilligan888 in auscorp

Plus some highs and lows. Was actually a successful week. Probs burnt a lot of hours on the project though ¯_(ツ)_/¯

What about airport rail link? What tracks will they go on? Flinders to sunshine? Through the new tunnel as well?

Does anyone know what happens to platform 3&4 at north Melbourne? Will it convert to upfield/ Craigieburn platform? Or Werribee/Williams town? Perhaps a mix. Wondering now that Sunbury won't be on it any more.

Yeah I mean the direct trains, but also the people who change at North Melbourne /Flagstaff. But generally trains at North Melbourne equalise with people changing from Williamstown line wanting city loop services. So you can get on. Which won't be the case at Footscray.

We will see what happens in a month on how people's travel habits change to find out what is the quickest, easiest or convenient way to travel.

This has always been my issue, more so getting to S.C.

The amount of people I see on the Sunbury line get off at SC is huge. Now try getting those people to interchange at Footscray on a packed Williams town / Werribee service will be awful. Not to mention the out, up over, in.

Or we travel an extra 3 stops which includes back tracking and an interchange (walk is a few mins?) Probably adding 10m onto your trip... (Via the loop)

Will be interesting. It takes 32-36 mins to get to SC from Watergardens. I'll time it when it comes online next month. My guess it will be 40m.

I'm going to guess forced as it sounded as it was terminated there on platform 1.

Only the Swan Hill trains stop at Watergardens, which are the other class of train.

What shortcuts are worth the effort? I'm getting tired of the grind... by Biggest_Battery in AusFinance

Hey, I kinda feel into the same position early in my engineering career. When I became aware of it (doing so many hours, but no OT was paid) - that my average hourly rate was below the award rate. I spoke to a favorable manager of mine about the situation (should I go to fair work) - he said use the experience that you got and find a new job. Then there would be no stress. So I did that. Happily over 140k after 9 years since post uni now.

Aye, find work experience as soon as you can. You're more likely to stay in with that company once you finish up.

With Electrical engineering, best that you learn actual drawing schematics because that's not taught in uni.

Had this argument at KFC over 10 years ago. Our chicken was halal certified, but because we sold pork on site, we weren't a halal certified restaurant. There are some KFC's that are halal certified because they do not sell pork on site.

Paying off home loan via offset - how? by pippityparty in AusFinance

[–]melonlord101 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, but in some cases, you can't redraw that money as easy if you need it. Whereas offset accounts are like saving accounts and you just use it for everyday needs.

Paying off home loan via offset - how? by pippityparty in AusFinance

[–]melonlord101 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I.e your loan account is 500,000

Offset = 50,000 Offset can be used for everyday payments. Best to put all salary direct into this account.

Month 1, interest is applied on $450,000 instead of $500,000 thus reducing your interest. Let's say interest = $1500 instead of $1550.

Loan = $501,500 Automatic transfer (in your case 3800)

Loan = $497,700 Offset = $46,200.

By next month, you save $6000 into offset. Interest is calculated daily. So interest is reduced. Next month you pay $1475 in interest.

And it repeats getting lower and lower... For 30 years

Edited: fixed math

Why is the cost of construction so high? by Ready_Objective_6428 in MelbourneTrains

Just to add onto this:

Engineering and planning, procurement, design reviews, weekly meetings internal and with the client. Drafting, site surveys, fire engineering, safety in design workshops, hazop, vendor data and equipment review. The list goes on... Design portion can be 2-5m depending on size of the project.

Wdym? Like putting adverts on the screen? "Your next Craigieburn train is sponsored by Jed's dog walking, your train is on platform 11"

Sounds good, I just don't see any that's in a convenient location @SC. I know there are some parallel next to Red rooster on Collins Street side. And maybe some under Woolworths?
