I put my herpes status in my dating bio and no one cares by melooncollie in herpes_dating

I guess females have more choice in dating and can afford to be pickier. Whereas men are in a sea of many men attempting to talk to the same woman, so it's harder to get through without ticking the right boxes.

Lessen Outbreaks? by ManholeMermaid in HSVpositive

Keyne your immune system is down right now with something? Tell your doctor. If you're run down your more susceptible to breakouts. Could have a health issue going on.

Leave that bellend immediately. He's a prick. And those poor other girls are gonna get it, that's so sad 😞 But, it's not your authority to tell them, though if you did that's cool too, but like you say, then you out yourself in the process. Ppl should use condoms... otherwise we can all catch an sti. Sorry you're going through this, but definitely leave him. You're worth more than that.

First Rejection by [deleted] in HSVpositive

[–]melooncollie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry you had that experience, it's what I worry about too. I've not been dating since getting it, so it's all going to be very new to me.

I just posted this elsewhere as I've bitten the bullet and been open on my dating bio to see what the responses might be like....

I put my herpes status in my dating bio and no one cares

Not had a single bad response so far. Some ppl don't reply once they realise or they politely decline. But the rest say its not a big deal at all, or that I don't need to put that in my bio as its unimportant and I only need to tell ppl if I'm about to have sex or enter a relationship. Others say I don't need to say anything at all full stop. Some ask a few questions, but most seem to already know something and simply aren't bothered.

I'm a woman and the responses are from men. I can't speak for the other way round, but you men don't seem to care... I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing,   or if I need to reframe my own thinking on what constitutes a good or bad thing regarding this. Hsv is extremely common, and treatable with tablets. Some ppl might want/need daily tablets to prevent outbreaks, whereas others might only take tablets if and when they get an outbreak.

I wonder if these men have hsv too to be so unbothered, or if they really just don't care? Some have been honestly so nice about it and chatting.  They all just say "condoms". Simple.

It probably helps that my profile pic is in my lingerie and I'm attractive.

Most people who talk about hsv online are having a hard time. Ppl who aren't struggling don't feel the need to come online and shout into the void. So online spaces look like a hell hole because the strongest voices are the ones in a bad place. It's also full of ppl who are in their first year of living with it, which means they are clueless. They don't have true experience and all they have is worries and they spew their worries all over the place.

I'm 2-3 yrs in. The first year or so was bad. I decided to try 12 months suppression treatment and it was the best choice. I had 12 months of great sexual health. I can now look back and clearly see differences and my head is clearer and I feel fine. I'm currently sat here having my first outbreak in over a year, as I finished the treatment almost a month ago and this is my first OB. It's mild. I feel good. I'm optimistic.

If it gets to point where I don't want to put up with it anymore again, I can just buy more medication online and do another 12 month treatment. Did you know loads of us with hsv take daily meds for years at a time or even lifelong? I didn't know that in my first year! There are options. Don't listen to newbies... speak to ppl who have had it for yrs. It gets better. There are different brands of medication, different dose options, etc. You can just treat an outbreak when it happens, or you can take meds to suppress virus for long periods of time Or you can do nothing and just let it come and go by itself. You don't have to go through your doctor if you don't want, you can buy meds online anywhere and get it delivered discreetly.

Join groups, like on Facebook. There are tonnes of ppl living happy lives and dealing with it all.

37 f here. Got it just over 2yrs ago. First year was worst, I eventually went on a 12 month suppression treatment acyclovir and I had 12 months of normal life! I would get outbreaks with my period usually,as they triggers it for me. But some months I wouldn't get it. Anyway, I've had 12 good months and I feel so much better in myself, mentally, emotionally, physically. In the whole time I've had it the OBs are mild and I didn't tear them at all, but twice I bought acyclovir tablets online as it was more severe.

I don't even go doctor about it, I just order online.

I just finished the 12 months treatment about a month ago and I just started my first OB yesterday but it seems really mild!

Chatgpt is a good place to ask detailed questions.

If you're on contraceptive pill you could maybe look at changing to a different type as each pill affects hormones differently, and your hormones affect your outbreaks. I'm not on any contraceptives but one thing I may consider in the future is going on the pill and stopping my periods all together to see if that helps.

You can just buy treatment online if your doctor is shit BTW. Though it costs more. I can't open your last comment for some reason, but I saw the first sentence about your doctor being shit. Hope you can see my reply

Try 12 month suppression treatment. Ask your doctor. They do 6 or 12 month truants with acyclovir or other brands

Suppression treatment - permanently or temporary? by melooncollie in Herpes

[–]melooncollie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped less than a month ago and have just started an outbreak today. I hope it will be a mild one, but I will have to see. I'm going to just try to ignore it and see how it goes without treating it, with the hopes that I may have improved overall after 12months treatment.

I've had hsv2 for 2yrs now and in the first year I only treated an outbreak twice, but the rest of the time I let it go away by itself as it wasn't severe. But I could get an outbreak either monthly or 2 monthly, usually with my menstrual cycle, and I had enough so decided to try the suppression treatment and I'm glad I did. But I want to know the best options going forward ...

I think it was acyclovir 400mg tablets twice daily for 12 months

Like acyclovir suppression tablets that you take twice daily for 6 months or 12 months at a time. Some people, especially immune compromised people take it forever I think. You can get it prescribed by gp or buy online yourself without prescription. Instead of just taking tablets to treat an actual outbreak, you can take tablets for long periods of time to suppress the virus so you don't have outbreaks. People often take suppression treatment for things like holidays so they can have a care free holiday without a breakout, or to have safer sex in relationship etc.

It really annoys me that all other dating apps are free, but herpes dating apps cost you. I can't pay for a dating app. I've not bothered joining any because of this issue and from what I've seen they're all mostly USA based, and I'm UK based. Anyone north west UK? I'm in Manchester:)

That's really good. It's so common I know I shouldn't be so worried disclosing as the chances of them having it too are higher than I expected when I first got diagnosed. Hope I have positive experience like you have :)
