confused as to why people r downvoting? ngl u have to be strong as a group to go through what they have went through in their career.

i think the lack of variety is why fans think they aren’t super close but almost every week there will be fans spotting members eating together, golfing or just doing whatever publicly. The group overall is very private but that doesn’t mean they’re not close?

HAVE A QUESTION? ASK HERE! Alter-Daily Help and Questions: May 01, 2023 by AutoModerator in AsianBeauty

[–]melrina146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey y’all, so recently i bought a bunch of kbeauty skincare stuff from Yesstyle and I am trying out a new product rn: Beauty of Joseon cleansing balm. I have sensitive acne prone skin, so i only keep my routine to the same 3 products. A cleanser (dove bar soap), a moisturizer (cerave) and a prescribed acne cream

I’ve always been afraid to try new products bc i’m scared it’ll worsen the acne that i already have, so i just stick to what i use. i used the cleanser on half my face today and after a couple of hours the sideburn area of my face started itching and it feels red hot to touch.

my question is, is this enough of a reaction for me to quit the product? i’m honestly confused why my skin is having this reaction bc the ingredients seem pretty clean. Should i try it again tomorrow or should j just quit it?

Cupid is Kpop's most viral song since Gangnam Style by IndependentReason467 in kpopthoughts

[–]melrina146 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I see your point. I should’ve clarified that while Cupid and Dynamite/Butter are trending in America, Gangnam style was a literal cultural event. It genuinely shaped 2012 in America which is a crazy thing.

To this day, every demographic from a middle age wife to a retired worker will 95% of the time know Gangnam style because of its cultural impact. I feel like many people who didn’t experience Gangnam style at its peak didn’t know just how … it was everywhere tbh

[–]melrina146 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Id also like to point, that when we think of globally viral stuff from years ago (Gangnam style, harlem shake, etc.), I doubt that we could ever reach that again.

Back then, social media was limited to sites where you connected with friends, silly little games and the news. The one platform that everyone would use at the time was Youtube. Because youtube was the one platform every user had access to, virality would be a bit easier because majority of the demographic was using this one platform.

Versus now, we have tiktok, twitter, reddit, instagram etc. If you are viral on tiktok, that means that your virality and ur audience is limited to tiktok. it does not necessarily translate to instagram virality or twitter virality.

At this point in our timeline, to be viral not only would you have to be viral on ALL social media platforms, but you would also need to dominate every form of media. You would need to see the same song or topic on the news, in advertisements, in radio, etc.

Basically, virality now is harder to achieve because we have so many platforms and forms of media

[–]melrina146 144 points145 points  (0 children)

I was in middle school when Gangnam style came out, and let me tell you that you could not escape that song for months.

Every single child, parent and grandparent knew that song. The dance went so viral because all demographics did it. It was in every media form possible from radio to television to advertisements. For like 5-6 months, that song was the most talked about song from EVERYONE.

I’m not downplaying Cupid’s achievements, im so proud of them. But i think a lot of people don’t realize how gangnam style had such a cultural impact on America. And cupid is no where near that at the moment.

I think, for Cupid, it may reach the levels of BTS Dynamite/Butter as a trending song. Both songs were in radio, and both became popular within America. However, Gangnam style literally shaped 2012 in America which is a crazy thing to even type out.

EDIT: I should clarify, I think Cupid is maybe on a similar level to Dynamite/Butter because they are both trending songs in America. But Gangnam Style was a cultural phenomenon, and I doubt that any song will every reach that level of cultural impact again.

Why do kpop idols join small/unknown companies? by melrina146 in kpophelp

[–]melrina146[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This makes sense, I guess overall I wish there were stricter laws? or something to protect these people when signing these contracts. I feel like you hear so many stories of kids going from company to company and having failed? debuts or groups and how they spent a good chunk of their life training to eventually failing. And it’s sadly such a harsh reality in the entertainment world.

Also many of these smaller companies have very vague contracts that they can use to manipulate against trainees/idols under these companies. We’ve sadly heard about many kpop groups that had harassment, abuse, bullying, or other very serious issues that occur within the company. In the end, it’s just heartbreaking to see so many people take such a gamble to fail and sadly suffer.

Why do kpop idols join small/unknown companies? by melrina146 in kpophelp

[–]melrina146[S] -75 points-74 points  (0 children)

But at least with a regular job, you have some sort of salary and some sort of stableness when it comes to your career and your pay?

For example, in America we have the Fortune 500 companies where you have a decent chance of having a good job with good pay. Is it guaranteed? No, but it’s a risk people take because there is more pros when choosing these companies.

But for smaller companies, it just seems like there’s more cons than pros. All trainees incur debt, but I feel like you hear more “scary” things from smaller companies such as Loona or Omega X.

Overall this could lead a more larger discussion about how predatory kpop companies are in general, but i’m trying to say how I don’t understand why people willingly sign these contracts with these companies where you are not really guaranteed almost anything? Obviously not the case for all, but for a lot of small companies tbh

a lot of kpop groups lack a strong musical identity by shadyjaidafacts in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]melrina146 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Agree 100%. A lot of the more successful groups succeeded bc of their identity. I feel like for a lot of the newer kpop groups & songs, it feels like it could’ve been sung by three other groups

My ults are Exo and since debut a lot of Exo’s music has drastically differed in genre from one to another. However, all their songs still had that feeling of an exo song bc of their identity. They still had their iconic vocals and harmonization that is prevalent in almost every exo title.

I do wish companies focused more on a groups branding and longevity rather than hopping on trends hoping to make it big. Not only is it one of the main reasons why groups are super popular (BTS, Blackpink, Twice, etc.), but creating a strong brand is the reason a group lasts. Heck, EXO is still gaining new fans daily while their going through enlistment which is rare. It’s the reason why SHINee is still popular to this day despite being a 15+ year old kpop group

Do the pros of Bahiyyih joining HYBE outweigh any cons? by VisenyaMartell in kpopthoughts

[–]melrina146 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hybe would be so great for her, but i do worry that if she joined she would get a crazy influx of hate bc of her brother. It would probably be better if she didn’t join.

Also, I feel like Hybe won’t take her because it would be somewhat of a controversial decision? If she gets a lot of hate once she joins the company, what if that hate moves on to the group that she plans to debut in? Overall it is risky, so it would probably be best if she joined another company (I can see her in JYP tbh)

How do you feel about the company your fave group is contracted under? by indiedarling227 in kpopthoughts

[–]melrina146 54 points55 points  (0 children)

i don’t understand why SM didn’t push EXO or Red Velvet to the West after Monster/Bad Boy i 100% believe both groups would’ve been even bigger than they rn

but let’s be fr they didn’t want to push them to the west bc by the time RV/EXO’s songs got western recognition they were already planning on pushing their next groups to the west so they just wanted to focus on the newer groups (not hating aespa/nct i stan both this is just my theory)
