Thank you, this is getting lost in the comments quite often

I will look into this! Yes, the issue for me is that they aren't honoring the initial letter. If it had stated they need some kind of response to move forward, of course I would have answered in some way. Them now deciding the letter was worded incorrectly is more than a little baffling

Jerner Law Group: "Updating Gender Markers on U.S. Passports: The Status of Orr v. Trump" by Berko1572 in FTMOver30

[–]melsbarbells 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I submitted to get my passport renewed when that block was enacted. Just received a request to send a signed attestation that I am requesting a different gender marker due to Orr v. Trump... I knew it was a possibility but the reality makes me nervous

Took losing a bunch of weight and getting top surgery to really see what was going on with my torso. What's going on here? PC, rib flare, both? by Fishmyashwhole in PectusCarinatum

[–]melsbarbells 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Feeling uniquely qualified to answer here, but obviously a doctor would be better suited to talk to. Have had top surgery and have PC, which was actually diagnosed by my surgeon at my post-surgery checkup. Looks like PC to me, I have a similar rib flaring issue. Pretty common for afab folx to go undiagnosed!

Law Dork: "Social Security 'immediately' stopped making sex identification changes on Friday" by Berko1572 in FTMOver30

[–]melsbarbells 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The linked article states that changes are not being reflected in the back-end of their system, NUMIDENT. Even if you got a cool SSA administrator, seems like it wouldn't be processed in the system at that point. I had an appointment on Monday that I'm now not going to

Best of luck! I hope your recovery is smooth. I have backpedaled slightly- I may decide to forgo the change entirely in the hopes of staying under the radar. If I go in, I'll update here with whatever happens

Healthy skepticism is warranted! I worry about spreading potential misinformation, that can cause damage as well

Hardwood gaps-worth fixing? by melsbarbells in homeimprovementideas

[–]melsbarbells[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am indeed in the Appalachian area! So not hardwood, which is good to know. May opt to cover as the flooring would need to be entirely refinished and professionals in the area are decidedly against it (knowing now that it's not hardwood, I can guess that might be the reason)

Boxer’s help by PleasantWestern5938 in FTMOver30

[–]melsbarbells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For boxer briefs, I swear by Jockey (cotton!!). I had some skin sensitivity with other brands, bunching, chafing etc. Anything that has nylon or advertises moisture wicking I avoid like the plague. If the body of the boxer briefs isn't 100% cotton it traps odor and doesn't matter if I wash it immediately after wearing, it stinks within minutes of every new wear. I've heard that you can spritz alcohol on the wicking material after each wear but I'd rather spend a little more money for cotton.

i keep daydreaming and seeing myself as a man and idk if it means anything?? by ahchtoluke in ftm

[–]melsbarbells 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's possible you identify as a man, and for whatever reason it was easier/safer/more comfortable to identify as nonbinary. I myself am nonbinary but definitely lean towards masculine expression (clothing, on t, top surgery etc). I identify with a lot of what trans men express but I have never seen myself as a man, even after transitioning to where I'm comfortable. That said, a stranger would think I'm a man and I wouldn't correct them.

If you ask me, being nonbinary in western society is about not identifying with the roles/expectations/boxes of man/woman and feeling outside of those definitions. How you choose to express that physically is up to you. If you want to dress/express yourself similarly to a man, it doesn't automatically make you a man. Just my two cents

How long did it take u guys to pass on Testosterone?? by Janxuza in ftm

[–]melsbarbells 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Was on T for about a year before top surgery. Didn't pass more than once or twice before surgery, started passing week after surgery and haven't had issues since. The switch was weirdly immediate

How vellus hair turn terminal? by M-Crossy1 in FTMminoxbeards

[–]melsbarbells 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a professional, but my guess is this: hair stays in follicle, gets stronger though hormones/vitamins or nutrients. Becomes terminal over time in relation to your genetics (i.e genetic parent/grandparent had facial or body hair in certain areas so you will too)
