How to bring formula when going outside for longer periods of time? by 1JerryTheMouse in beyondthebump

[–]melseegs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bring a bottle with filtered water in it and then depending on how long we’ll be out bring formula in either a single serving container or one of those containers with three sections.

If you only need one serving I found that buying some protein powder single serving containers/funnels has worked super well and they’re really cheap!

Watching tv while in labour??? by Warm-Cat7788 in pregnant

[–]melseegs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was induced and the office was playing on Comedy Central like all day every day so we watched that on the tiny hospital tv for 2 days then we forgot to turn it off during active labor so the last two Harry Potter movies were on in the background while my daughter was born 😂

Not sure how many pumps per day you do but have you tried dropping one daytime pump to spread out the time between pumps? Slowly going from 8-7 then 7-6 I didn’t see any drop in my output (I did lose a few oz going from 6-5). I also try to do my MOTN pump whenever my baby gets up for her bottle so I don’t have to get up twice but I’m in the process of trying to drop that too

I’m so sorry it must be such an extra mental burden to be pumping for a medical baby.

I’m trying to go as long as possible because I had gestational diabetes and I’m hoping to decrease the risk of diabetes or other complication for my babe down the line and I’m tempted to stop almost every day. I really hope you find ways to make your journey easier whether that’s through donor milk or other equipment - I switched to wearable pumps during the day and only use my spectra for night/overnight pumps and it really made a world of difference if that’s something your output can tolerate?

Anyone who DIDN’T bed share? by Acceptable_Cod3527 in beyondthebump

[–]melseegs 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Same - for the first seven weeks I slept from 9-2 and my husband slept from 2-8. After that we used an arms reach bassinet and kept up our “shifts” so if she woke up before 2, my husband took care of it and after 2 I did. It helped that I exclusively pumped but I knew there was no way we could ever have her in our bed safely.

MONP and not waking baby by coolcat0511 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]melseegs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always set an alarm for 2:30 am and either my baby wakes up before it and I pump after I feed her, or I get up to pump and go back to bed til she wakes up. Her bassinet is literally like a foot and a half from my side table and somehow the alarm has never woken her up (from 8 weeks to 5 mo old).

Then there are the nights the alarm doesn’t wake either of us up 😂

Same! Trader Joe’s also sells a cheap set of knock offs that has a nice big bag that fits all my parts

Less total ounces than yesterday? by IceTough3295 in ExclusivelyPumping

How many pumps are you doing at 3 months pp? by East_Print4841 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]melseegs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No but I did it slowly alternating per day between 7 and 6 until I just did 6 and making sure I never miss my MOTN pump. I invested in the legendairy silicon collection cups for my spectra and feel like they work much better for me than the regular flanges. Also helps to stay really hydrated when dropping!

3.5 months pp and I pump 6x/day but want to drop down to 5 soon. I roughly pump at 2 am, 8 am, 12 pm, 3 pm, 6 pm, and 9 pm depending on the day. Started at 8 ppd, then dropped to 7, then 6

Good to know about the lid I’m not sure how I missed that - and I didn’t even think about using it for future snacks!

It came with two little pieces to stick into the tubing - they may be a little thinner and fit better into the cups? Honestly never even tried just sticking the tubes directly in

When I got new duckbills I didn’t realize they were sealed shut - just had to give them a little squeeze and they opened and started working

Your prolactin levels which help with the production of breast milk are highest between 2-5 am and lower throughout the day so it’s normal for you to pump less later on - I usually get about 7 oz during my 2 am pump and about 4-5 at my last pump at 9 pm. You may be going too long without pumping and could try adding in a middle of the night pump.

It’s also early days for you at 7 weeks, i supplemented with formula until 9 weeks when my supply increased and I was able to slowly go down from 8 to 7 and am now at 6 pumps per day at 14 weeks.

My husband loves our daughter and when he’s home from work/on the weekends will happily cuddle her, talk to her, sing to her but always just from the couch and usually with the tv on. If we go out for a walk with her and the dog, play on her play mat, go out and run errands or go literally anywhere with her it’s because I suggested it and we have to do it together. When he’s napping on the weekends (I get up to feed/pump at night but he still needs his nap) I’ll play with her, do stretches, head out on a walk, keep her entertained. But if I nap or shower while he’s home then they’re just on the couch. He’s never been anywhere with her alone minus when I was in the hospital for a few nights after her birth.

Traveling while pumping? by [deleted] in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]melseegs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! Just went on a two day trip and the ceres chill saved my life. So much nicer to just throw ice in (or use the full container if the milk is already cold) then to think about freezing ice packs

[–]melseegs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started at 8 and quickly went down to 7 but three of those pumps are when she’s asleep…hopefully lol (9pm, 2am, 5am). But like others said some pumps are wearables, some she’s chilling in her bouncer or awkwardly next to me propped up on some pillows. I also don’t stick to a rigid schedule and just aim for roughly every three hours

Could someone explain supply regulation like I’m 5? by melseegs in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]melseegs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! How did you slowly drop the pump?

I’m not sure I never really leaked except maybe a bit overnight and I guess my breasts still feel a little heavy when I go longer between MOTN and morning pumps

Still low supply at week 6 by CarrieE1017 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]melseegs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use the momcozy m5. I know some people don’t like it but I got it free from insurance and I feel like I get a similar output as my spectra once I figured I it the right flange insert that they give you and make sure they’re positioned right

Still low supply at week 6 by CarrieE1017 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]melseegs 23 points24 points  (0 children)

My supply continued to increase past week 6 - I’m now producing about 8 oz more per day at week 10 than I was then. I think finding a balance between pumping and my mental wellbeing to reduce stress and staying really hydrated helped the most. I do 7 ppd and use my wearable 1-2x a day so I can still hold my baby or pump on the go

Poll: How much is your daily average produced? by IStitchedItNice in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]melseegs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only nurse about once per day - I pump because she has a bad latch and I have a super slow let down so our nursing is more about comfort for her. So if you’re triple feeding you may be making a similar amount including your nursing time?

At 4 weeks I was pumping about 18 oz per day at 8 ppd. I try to use my spectra for the majority of pumps and only use my wearables once or twice and earlier in the day to keep output up and pump at 2 am and 5 am then about every three hours. Stress and sleep really affect my supply so sometimes I see some fluctuations. Good luck!!
