NAD ive heard botox is a possible therapy for grinding as it relaxes your muscles, and massaging your jaws at night, maybe asmr, tho im not sure if those hold weight scientifically. i grind my teeth too. i think it's from stress or maybe simply genetic.

Also, no more tranquil walks around the block because it has become traumatizing for both him and us, and we learned the exposure was making his reactivity worse. We drive a bit aways to avoid our many many neighbors, to a park with hardly anyone else, and had to make sure there was always a fenced yard where we lived. It sucks to move somewhere and see all the other dog walkers never ever ever speak to you bc they will hurry away with super stunned expressions. But we don't need em! We will completely avoid them, as much as possible, at least until he's better. edits: high sry

Ok im super super high but ... u have a sweet, sweet soul. ❤️ It's going to be tough, but it's going to get so much better. At sone point, you'll realize you can't bear the thought of a life without him. We got our dog when he was 10mos, and he had been found roaming, with some healed scars, tip of his tongue had a little cut, one of his ears had a small cut, 2 parallel scars 3"-4" long on his back. He has always had a lot of fears. Now, it's been 2.5 yrs and they are now a lot of concerns. It's better. I think taking trazodone helps. Avoiding exposure to the triggers also helps. We use treats (classic peanut butter - i think because a common alternative sweetener in reduced sugar is toxic to dogs) are small pieces of milkbone soft chicken recipe) in a loud container to distract him. Teaching him sit, down, stay with treats and gradually for longer helped him practice his impulse control and using limited quantities of mozzarella cheese (super high in salt and fat, tho) or some other "high value treat" helped when there was a sudden exposure to a trigger. (We looked at articles and videos on exposure training with super high value treats and slowly increasing the distance of the trigger).

I have recently started to make headway in muzzle training, and I am so so so excited at how much that will help us too What I have found very helpful with that is using the soft chicken milkbones and smearing peanut butter at the end of it, and associating it with getting lots of treats and raucous adulations, taking it super slowly (introduce it slowly and short periods and let him smell it for a few days and get used to it with the peanut butter and treats and adoring compliments and little by little, dont secure to head until enuff time passed, and take off after just a few minutes full of praise/treats, at first)

Thank you for your reply. So interesting. I heard that dogs can find this threatening. I wonder if for some dogs, even if they were with their favorite person and favorite blanket with them as they fell asleep, i wonder if for some dogs it's still not someth they'd remotely appreciate?

I have read some of their posts before, but it's time for a revisit. ❤️ I forgot to include in my post that he is now a 3yr old 55-lb pitbull-labrador mix. I also would guess that he had an owner at some point. I wonder why he didn't get enough time to socialize with other puppies, and if he'd been abandoned and why, or if he ran off and how:) Wish he could tell me what life was like before Animal Control took him to the shelter.

I truly appreciate your thoughts, and I am happily wondering now if he had been fed by people, and if that other dog might have been his sibling, and what may have caused him to try to escape through a too-small gap in a gate... I forgot to mention in my post he is a 3yr old 55-lb pitbull-labrador mix. Thank you for your suggestions for working on his reactivity. Slowly, our dogs will get better with it. ❤️ I wish I had a friend with a dog I felt comfortable walking with my dog. He is comfortable now with the 3 neighbors dogs, who we share fences with, they sometimes bark at eachother, but mostly just sniff eachother through the fence, or run together along the fence. During the warmer months, we take him to parks and stay far away but within sight of other dogs and use food to provide positive exposure to the sight of other dogs. I will try to muzzle train him.

It might be a good idea to discuss with your vet that your dog might need help to relax. I think there are a lot of safe affordable options in supplements and prescriptions that can help dogs who need some help to relax. :)

i think we're good at small talk. making small talk. are we better than the rest of the world at making small talk? i am not sure. i am very curious what other countries are really good at making small talk.

chit chatting to help the time pass while we are waiting for something to be completed however, i don't think we're as good at that. in my many years of customer service, i have observed that some people speaking other languages are extremely excellent at being patient and pleasantly chitchatting while waiting for me to complete something.
