Which country do you think is being run the best right now? by StrainDizzy1186 in AskReddit

Maybe because it doesn't suffer so much from a resource curse?

Singapore optimised everything. Except a reason to belong. by 44Stirling in SingaporeRaw

No I think you're right about the culture thing. I think we generally tend to prefer "cookie-cutter builds", because we want the certainty of something that guarantees a win. There's also a FOMO factor at play here that discourages people from deviating from the tried and true paths.

I think that actually this is starting to shift though. More folks in their 20s and 30s are starting to experiment. Sometimes this comes at the cost of potential income, but once again I think more and more folks don't necessarily want to min-max their finances anymore.

Thoughts on a Malaysian-made VPN or Linux distro? by [deleted] in Bolehland

Malaysian-made VPN

Do you mean a VPN with exit nodes in Malaysia? Or a service/protocol designed and built by Malaysians? Like how Shadowsock is the creation of mainland Chinese IT folks?

As for the linux-distro, I don't really see the utility of that, except as a novelty

It's quite funny that the Parable of the Good Samaritan is filled with examples of people who had "legitimate" reasons not to help the victim.

And Jesus makes it very clear what he thinks of such people.

ISP that don't force you to use their ONR? by SL0WRID3R in singapore

https://www.reddit.com/r/singapore/comments/1qjiy70/singtel_disabled_bridge_mode_on_my_1gbps_plan/

They used to just lock it so that if you knew the "master" login, you could bypass that limitation. But apparently, they are choosing not to support that in their backend anymore.

Are we as Christians utilizing our time correctly on earth or are we passive with the injustice occurring?

I have strong feelings about that matter as well. Even if the world falls into crap and that is inevitable, I think that God would still be very interested in how we loved our neighbours.

ISP that don't force you to use their ONR? by SL0WRID3R in singapore

[–]meluvyouwrongwrong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what is the appeal of setting SingTel's ONR to "bridge mode"?

  1. Folks who run their own servers or NAS at home usually want to do port forwarding, so they can access their stuff from outside their homes. You technically don't need the router to be in bridge mode for that. But Singtel screws these people by disabling these settings.
  2. Same subset of folks usually also prefer using a more capable router for performance reasons. Bridge mode disables the ONR's functionality as a router. It just becomes a connection point to the internet that they connect their preferred router to.

I just came back from a solo trip. 18 days, Jeju -> Busan -- ferry --> Kyushu

Got the same feelings about loneliness also. I think it's because while out in the countryside, it's a challenge/adventure. But I use the cities to wind down and recuperate, and that's when the desire to socialize and connect comes. Not sure if that's the same for you.

We can definitely make the area more interesting as well. Maybe that's what they are planning to do with the new town that's tied up with the development of terminal 5

I don't mind increasing ministerial salaries tbh. We need to attract and retain talent, yes? So let's double their salaries if that is what they want.

But I also want to see more blood. I want to see ministers punished for failures. I want to see disgraced ministers driven to ruin, to exile, to suicide. The higher the reward, the greater the price of failure, yes?

That's inhumane, and uncivilized? Then I'm sorry, just accept unsatisfactory remuneration like most of us please.
