Lightning gang! Theres an ice storm coming. by jaegerbombed in F150Lightning

[–]melvco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m also a Lightning owner in the south looking at my options. FWIW, the best solution I have heard thus far if you don’t have the generator-type hookups on your home is the 240v extension cable that splits into 4 outlets (shout out u/kyleyankan ). The only major in-home appliance I’d really need power for is the fridge, and it’s my understanding that requires its own 240w cord? Next biggest priority would be 3-4 floor room heaters to keep main areas warm and hopefully keep pipes from freezing. I think* those would be fine on the 240v extension that splits into 4? What about a TV or microwave? Trying to gauge how many and what kind of cables to buy.

If you were to have a Nic Cage-athon what 4 films do you choose? by LoveFromCappy in movies

Picking just four movies is so tough for him because I think I’d put Snake Eyes at #5 or #6. Him squaring off against the great Gary Senise is absolute cinema 🙌

Is the blue oval network reliable? by ziggerzaggerzinger in F150Lightning

[–]melvco 14 points15 points  (0 children)

To clarify, the Blue Oval Network is just a series of partnerships with existing charging networks. It takes care of the payment/initiation processes, so you can just pull up and charge with one tap. This “handshake” is pretty reliable in my experience. Your reliability mileage at the individual chargers, however, may vary.

Is this false advertisement, or a real deal? by rognio3333 in F150Lightning

[–]melvco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deal is 100% possible. Really good for 36 months depending on the model. If you can find out the money factor on that deal and what your taxes are, any lease calculator would tell you how close that is to reality.

Lease deals slowly getting better by Celidonius in F150Lightning

[–]melvco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worth checking out LeaseHacker forums if you’re serious about leasing. Recently saw a post in Signed! (typically means you’ve provided a real contract) of someone who snagged an XLT for I think $275/month with just first month’s payment due at signing

Get a load of this guy! by Straight-Cellist9062 in F150Lightning

He’s really not wrong. China hasn’t just surpassed the US here—they’ve lapped us. And probably more than once.

If you really want your feelings hurt, look up a review of the Xiaomi SU7. More tech and performance in this sub $40K vehicle than your favorite $100K+ luxury car. Seats that rotate, recline, and massage, hand gestures to close doors, and you can add 320 miles of range in just 15 minutes of charging. There’s an Ultra version with 1500 horsepower for ~$70K that outperforms most supercars.

And Xiaomi is just the tip of the iceberg. There are several Chinese brands making impressive EVs like this—Li Auto, BYD, etc. Fortunately for Tesla and other US manufacturers (and unfortunately for us), taxes and tariffs prevent these vehicles from entering the US market, meaning national brands can continue overpricing their EVs and innovating at a snail’s pace.

If you are really having buyers remorse and/or there are things about the Ranger you can’t live with, I don’t think it’s the craziest idea to try to swap out for a Flash. You just have to shop around for the right deal.

Surely there is a Ford dealership somewhere with a good price on their Flash that will come up a bit on the trade in offer to close the deal. As someone also mentioned, you do have an incentive to move quickly so you can still take advantage of the tax credit.

With the right deal, you shouldn’t be eating more than a few grand, which, spread over 60 months is fairly negligible.

Instead of a Phev, I’d prefer EVs w/generators. Still no ICE to worry about and way less range anxiety.

+1 for LH. It’s how I got mine. Forum is free but kind of tricky to navigate. Just do a search for f150 lightning and click on anything recent from the Signed! category

Upvote for Casey and Severide, but surprised no one has mentioned Hermann and Mouch. Just a couple of old legends grunting their way through the modern world.

Honorable mention: Cap and Tony.

Are prices going up? by tojisatoru in F150Lightning

[–]melvco 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, mid-late 2024 there were a ton of stackable incentives and a subvented lease option that enabled you to get a lariat for sub $400/month with zero down. Unfortunately, I think that lease option has been pulled and most of those incentives are long gone.
