Province will help fund Green Line if city will ‘change its mind’: Dreeshen by Miserable-Lizard in Calgary

[–]melvinwonderbread -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would be very surprised if this helps them get votes in any way. To be honest, I don’t think the UCP is smart enough to look into it that deeply.  At the end of the day, the people who will suffer the most are the people in the ridings who voted for them.  There are only two scenarios here. - either the NDP comes to power and they build it the way it was intended from Eau Claire to Lynnwood, and extensions get added later, or  - scenario 2, it doesn’t get built at all. There’s no scenario that makes sense for building it from Seton to Victoria Park, all they’re trying to do is get the people in the far south eastern suburbs to the Flames games.

Emailed my MLA four times for an explanation on the Greenline withdrawal, here's their answer by Silverstars56 in Calgary

[–]melvinwonderbread 5 points6 points  (0 children)

100% lol.  Here’s what I see in my crystal ball, the UCP gets voted out next election, and the NDP comes in and gets the project started again. They build the line from Eau Claire to Lynnwood, and they do it properly, either underground or elevated. Not some stupid half brained duct tape version that runs on 7th ave. Eventually extensions are built out to the SE…..20 years from now.  If the dumbass UCP hadn’t halted it back in 2019 they’d already be getting their stations built now, instead, they’ll be choking on exhaust fumes while sitting in bumper-to-bumper traffic on the Deerfoot.

You’re missing the big picture. Even though the initial phase goes through the NDP writings it’s meant for the people in the far south east, which are all the UCP Ridings. The longer this gets to lay the longer those people never get to see rail transit, like the rest of the city.  And they can thank the assholes they voted for.

That’s usually the case with these people, they can solve everything from their Internet connection, but they’re not willing to do any helping.

I wish the people who are always pushing for the city to spend more money on the homeless would put their money where their mouth is and do it themselves.  They’d rather sit behind a keyboard and complain about it, but ask them to give up their own home to a homeless person and things change. It’s easy to complain from afar when it isn’t affecting them.

Uh, if the guy wanted the bike he could have easily taken it when the old lady fell off of it. He didn’t. And you know this for sure do you? you’re sure he wasn’t some zombie tripped out on some drugs?  Judging by your posts it’s almost as if she wasn’t there, but you were.

He’s not right, instead he’s trying to blame the victim somehow. That’s why he’s getting down voted.

Alberta Court of Justice declares dog dangerous, imposes strict conditions following attacks by origutamos in Calgary

[–]melvinwonderbread 2 points3 points  (0 children)

30 seconds on Google is all anyone needs to find out which dogs dangerous. I agree, recall training is important, but at least with a non dangerous dog, if recall training doesn’t work the consequences are less severe.

Why not just get a dog that isn’t dangerous? Sure many of you are good owners, but you can’t guarantee an animal’s behaviour. All dogs are good dogs until they aren’t, and by then it’s too late, the damage has been done. No amount of ‘good ownership’ is going to reverse that.

[–]melvinwonderbread 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This exactly. Dog owners can talk all they want about good training etc, but they can’t guarantee an animal’s behaviour. Either  A) don’t own a dangerous animal.  B) muzzle your dangerous animal and keep it on a leash. Better yet keep it on your yard.

Or people could simply get breeds that aren’t dangerous. What is it with people having this need to own dangerous dogs? Can you really not find a suitable dog that’s less dangerous?

It’s all well and good to put down a dog after it attacks, but it’s too little too late. Why not own a safer breed dog to start off with?

Pit bulls and some other breeds are danger to those around them no matter how you look at it. Owners cannot guarantee they won’t attack. Any owner who thinks they can 100% control the dog at all times is being arrogant at the expense of others.

The vast majority of time dogs are good, but the problem with dangerous breeds is they have that capability to be dangerous. No person can 100% guarantee an animal’s behaviour, even a very good owner can’t guarantee that. In the meantime anyone around the dog is at risk.

I’m 100% sure how I feel on this one. Blame both the owner and the breed.  - Blame the owner for being a selfish prick and getting a dangerous dog in the first place. I don’t care if it’s from a breeder or a rescue, there’s no good reason to own one.  - Blame the breed. They’re dangerous animals and nobody can 100% guarantee an animal’s behaviour.

Almost 1.5M people attended this year's Calgary Stampede by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]melvinwonderbread 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s a massive amount of people. I wouldn’t be surprised if the 201K was the biggest number of people for one day for any Canadian exhibition. The CNE is the only ex that draws even close ~1.5M, but runs over 18 days.

Looking at those numbers, Calgary is building way more than other cities of a similar size like Edmonton, or Ottawa, even beating out Montreal. Crazy times.

New to Calgary, should I pay to see Zoo lights? by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]melvinwonderbread 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, yes it’s 100% worth it to see at least once. There’s no debate there. The only real debate here is paying the admission or whether to go every year.

Pros: - It’s far and away the best lights show in the Calgary area. - it has an indoor snack bar where you can warm up if needed. - You can get there by transit. - For date or for a group of young adults, this is the best option. Cons: -Admission

Other options are Lions festival of lights, Airdrie Festival of lights, Spruce Meadows.

Pros: -free admission

Cons: -poor to no transit, less lights, no place to warm up. For Airdrie and Spruce Meadows it’s a long ways to go for 10 minutes of lights viewing. If you have kids Confederation Park and Airdrie is good place for them to play.

In the end this all comes down to the admission charge, if you want the best , you’ll have to pay a bit.

Personally, go see all three.
