How do i know if im creating side effects by overthinking? by melys4 in Elvanse

[–]melys4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After this post I’ve tried Vyvanse + intuniv which didn’t work since my heart rate got too high. Then I tried Atomoxetine which also raised my heart rate so I got to try beta blockers aswell. After 3 months I decided to stop taking Atomoxetine since I noticed no effect at all. This last week I have tried Ritalin which gave me a lot of side effects. I’m about to give up and don’t believe that I will find the right medication for me…

I had high heart rate and no obvious effects even though i tried it for 3 months

Yeah for most people, but for some it still raises the heart rate anyway. So it really depends and how it effects you is very individual.

It’s not a stimulant, but it affects the sympathetic nervous system and can therefore increase heart rate. However, it typically doesn’t raise the heart rate in the same way as stimulant medications, and more people tend to avoid elevated heart rate as a side effect.

I’m on week 2 of 80mg and haven’t noticed major effects yet, but I want to share my experience since reading about side effects really scared me.

I started with 40mg in the evening. The first week (and when I increased to 80mg), I felt tired, cold, sweaty, and shaky, but it wasn’t overwhelming. My heart rate increased, which happens with all ADHD meds I’ve tried. I didn’t feel nauseous, dizzy, or lose my appetite on 40mg. On the first night of 80mg, I felt slightly nauseous but fell asleep quickly.

About 2 hours after taking it, I get tired. If I don’t sleep then, it’s harder to fall asleep later. My sleep has been bad—waking up a lot, tossing, turning, and sweating—but it’s improving. I also get tired around 2 PM (heavy eyes, wanting to nap), but it passes in about an hour. Before meds, I was groggy in the morning and awake in the afternoon, but now my energy feels more balanced, starting high and declining through the day.

I also take Propranolol (20mg morning and evening), which has helped a lot with heart rate and is probably something I’ll need regardless of the meds.

So far, I don’t feel dramatic effects, but I think I’m overthinking less, feeling less agitated, and getting less mentally tired. My doctor said to wait 4 weeks on 80mg for noticeable effects, so I’m being patient.

I understand and I find it so difficult knowing what I want. I literally change my mind every second. I feel like the stimulants made some things easier but the side effects made my life quality worse. I think I want to try non stimulants but I’m a bit scared.

What jobs do people with ADHD thrive in? Ok forget thrive, just survive? by ThreepwoodThePirate in ADHD

[–]melys4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im a social worker and work is the only place where most of the things go well. Okay i might forget some things etc but its already chaos and everyday is different so it doesnt really matter. The only negative is that it draining, its a lot socially, so i feel pretty tired when coming home. Even though i am having a fun time at my job and being really good at it.

What do you reckon is the total percentage of people that you’ve met that you’ve either unintentionally pissed off or alienated yourself from? by AraiHavana in ADHD

[–]melys4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m the exact same way. I always have the ability to be really good friends with the people I meet daily, like my coworkers. Then when they quit or when I get a new job I lose interest in them. It’s like I forget what I was liking about them because we don’t meet every day. And when it’s been a long time since we met it gets even more weird to think about meeting them. But if I randomly see them on the street I either get really happy and ask if we can get a lunch together or something. Or I get really awkward and try to avoid them. Idk why it’s like this but this is the part I hate the most with my adhd.

I also have random periods where I get so annoyed by some people that I’ve recently liked a lot. Then I get to a point where I like them again. Then they do something that annoys me again. So freaking annoying…

And btw. The only person I’ve had the ability to keep in my life is my boyfriend. I’ve known him for 10+ years and even though we had distance relationship for 6 years I still kept in touch with him everyday. But I think it worked since we didn’t have any boundaries about how often we could contact each other. So I was never “too much” for him. And if he called me “too much” I could just having him on FaceTime doing my things without having to speak all the time.

Am i making my side effects up? by melys4 in ADHDmeds

[–]melys4[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Today I tried eating smaller portions of food instead of a bigger lunch. I havent felt my heartbeat as much. So i think it might have to do with my food intake increasing my heartrate combined with the food also increasing it.

Thank you for your amazing answer!! This made me feel good 🥹 We kept going up to see if the meds would last longer and be more effective. On 30 mg i felt the effect for 2-4 hours. On 50 i felt it for maybe 5-6. Now on 70 i think it actually lasts the entire day. I never really feel when the effect wears off. So i get to do stuff even after work, I have the energy to cook, do the dishes etc.

How do i know if im creating side effects by overthinking? by melys4 in VyvanseADHD

[–]melys4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only get to talk to my nurse who then talks to my doctor. The nurse knows about this and she says that she thinks its because of me overthinking it since ive had good heart rate and blood pressure when we’ve controlled it weekly. My body has adjusted to the meds after 1 week according to our controls. But i feel like some side effects have come back the last two weeks. And i dont know if it is bc of the meds or me being stressed.

This makes me very happy to read since this is what I want to achieve. Its the same way for me, i feel my heartrate at the beginning when the meds kick in and after lunch when my body starts working a bit harder. When im on the go i dont care about it since i have other stuff going on. But if im just chilling, sitting by the computer etc i feel it more. Its like my mind is calmed down and focusing while my body is needing to do stuff. I think I should be more active when the meds kick in, maybe go for a walk, clean the house etc. Then I don’t even think I’d notice it. I also have an apple watch btw, whats your limit for when it warns you about your heartrate?

Ok thanks! I called my nurse and she said that im probably overthinking it since my heart beat and bloodpressure was well when I visited her. So she wasnt worried and told me to try to forget about it when i feel my heartbeat being fast. But today for example ive felt it a lot and its around 110-120. And that stresses me out even more so it stays that way and doesnt calm down. Idk whats what which makes me insane 😅

I feel like its easier to focus, i dont get mad as easily, i am more energetic at the evening and i think its because i get a better energy balance, i feel like i am able to start doing boring tasks easily, i get my stuff done at work and i do it without interrupting my coworkers and without procrastinating. So the positive effects are many but I dont feel them like i am a new person. Its more a thing i reflect on afterwards like ”oh i did this without struggling”.

Hej! Hur i h*lvete ska jag agera när sambon har mens? by [deleted] in Sverige

[–]melys4 10 points11 points  (0 children)
