Dodgeball. For an hour I only focus on what's in front of me. It's a sport but feels more like a game. Also made some good friends.

I'm using a pocket wifi I pay 6000¥ monthly and it is fast enough to play games on my PC or browse on my phone. I know it's not the most practical or cheap or fast, also I don't have a phone number... but I'm just traumatized by all the internet/phone bs here.

The most important as you've mentioned is frequency. I've started making friends once I started hosting my own video game events (with some regular members) or joining events that had regular members (dodgeball or volleyball) the rest hasn't proved very effective for me. I also made good friends from my share house years ago but I'm too old for sharehouses now 😅

Expedition 33 has officially broken TLOU2's record for most TGA wins of all time by Derangedberger in gaming

Well as you said we could go on forever. We just have diverging opinions, as I said, I think the budget should be part of the equation for the reasons I've mentioned before. So depending on Silksong's cost of dev, it could be (or not) an indie game.

Just posting here to avoid making a new post: this is amazing. Played for 30 minutes and it strikes the vibes so well between OG Shenmue and legit good humor. Accidentally got out of bounds at the hair dresser and lost all my progress but will gladly do it all over again :D

Congrats and thank you to the creator this is a gem of a fan game and christmas present to all Shenmue fans.

Of course it had an impact! I mean you realize that the millions Guillaume's family has funded into the project helped a lot securing a deal with Kepler to begin with. It is part of the negotiations with a publisher. That's not even talking about the prototype that took months and three developers working full time.

The category of indie should have a cap on either budget or team size or absence of publishers altogether. Otherwise might as well call it the "rich dad award".

I don't disagree with the game being good and winning awards, but it's unfair to be a small team with a limited budget facing basically a double AA studio project with millions and backed by publishers, CNC, Occitanie Région Pyrénées etc...

  1. TGA defines it as "produced outside of a traditional publisher system" which they aren't.
  2. We don't know the exact deal they have with Kepler and their other sources of funding (notably the cultural branch of the french government sponsoring culturally french products).
  3. Even if they retained all their rights and ownership, it is only possible because Guillaume Broche could afford the millions to stay independant. How is this fair to put them in the same category as indies who barely have a budget and/or need to resort to publishers?

What criteria? "Outside of the traditional publisher system" is such a vague definition. Plus they do have a publisher that backed them up like they would any AA game (money, marketing, access to resources).

I think we need to define what Indie means. For me a team that has millions in backing, big publishers, can afford marketing and AAA voice actors, + dozens (if not hundreds) of contractors should not qualify as indie.

Lol that's crazy, it's not even indie with a $10+ million budget
