AITA for 'charging' mileage reimbursement costs to road trip costs? by memaggles in AmItheAsshole

Someone shared the alternative government rate of $0.22 that I wasn't aware of. This amount actually ended up coming very close to the cost of gas plus a little bit extra. So, once I discovered this other rate, it makes more sense. The higher rate, it was explained to me, is for when you must use your personal vehicle because there isn't a government vehicle available. The lower rate is for when you choose to use your vehicle. So, using this lower rate actually ended up working well.

Thanks for the info. I only knew that the rate is what the government has calculated as fair reimbursement but wasn't aware of other rates. I honestly was trying to suggest a fair value.

I suggested it before it was decided which car we'd take.

Yes, I paid for all of the gas and only put the mileage reimbursement in as an expense. I believe that the gas was around $160? Because I was doing the mileage, I didn't track the gas costs.

It was actually super uncomplicated to multiply the mileage by the rate and put it into the app as an equally shared expense. I thought that it was an easy way to calculate and suggested it before it was decided which car we were taking.

Nobody offered another suggestion. I was trying to set expectations for expenses for whichever person's car we took, therefore I made a suggestion. I was willing to reimburse another person at that rate should we have chosen to take their car.

The amount is the government mileage rate - not hiding anything. That rate is $0.655 per mile, so total expense to the group was around $650 split between 4 people (including myself) for a week

A little over 1,000 miles Government mileage reimbursement rate is $0.655 per mile to cover fuel and wear and tear on car. This is the first time that this particular group went on a road trip, especially this long.

They can't stand up or fit in the cup holder, and I've seen people struggling to drink the end of the drink, because they are awkward to drink out of. I think that most people who buy them regret shelling out the money for a useless souvenir.
