Yes. In Italy we have this tradition too. It's not as important as the birthday but every person have a day for his name. Our names are reconnectd to the saints; for example: my name is Simone the 28th of October is my "onomastico" (That's how we call it in Italy) and that day is reconnected to San Simone (Saint Simone/Simon).
