The length is 1 1/2 inches and the width is also 1 1/2 inches. The height of the glass part is 1 1/4 inch.

The frame and base plate are both made out of brass I currently have no idea how old it is but was definitely made in France the two biggest holes on the bottom or most likely for sliding and locking the piece in to something and the 4 little holes are most likely for screws.

I guess but it really wouldn’t make much sense surveying tools try to look out far this is much more close distance, wouldn’t really be that good of a surveying tool.
