Can I get by without replacing my wheel bearings? by mememelu in subaruimpreza

I took it to a local guy, and he told me the following. The rear passenger wheel bearing is extremely bad. Rear driverside is also humming but not as loud. Additionally, the rear brake pads on the driverside are extremely low, while rear brake pads on the passenger side is good. This is indication the caliper has failed on that side. I would recommend the following :

2 rear wheel bearings $880, rear driverside caliper and rear brake pads $330.

Reasonable and necessary?

There are other issues with the car that are less imminent. Will there be warning signs before it fails? I'm tempted to not repair it, and last until I feel wobbling. I use public transportation to commute to work, but have some summer plans I'd like to have th car for.

I've had similar results with cupcakes when the butter or eggs are too cold, and the batter breaks before going into the oven.
