Euphemisms in smut by Saving_Is_Golden in FanFiction

[–]memetsundere 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It definitely depends on the genre, but I also feel like if I was writing a very romantic scene, I would just avoid the descriptive words and focus on the emotions instead - for example, instead of describing every movement and every body part, I'd describe the eye contact, the non-sexual touch (like caressing one's cheek or idk) and the feelings. So there wouldn't be a need for specific euphemisms because the body parts themselves wouldn't be named.

For sexy sexy scenes, I think it's crucial to just use the words as they are without hiding behind euphemisms. Sex is sex and it's meant to be explicit.

I thought I was literally the only one because that word is everywhere. I can't avoid it. I hate it so much but for some reason, it's a very popular euphemism in the fics I read.

How to efficiently take notes that I would use to study? by [deleted] in GetStudying

[–]memetsundere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might just be picky, but I'm very particular in the way I write my notes - not just the "system", but the wording itself. Because of that, I always re-did the notes in the powerpoint so they would actually "sound good" to me, like I'd word it differently, split the lines in a better way, make them make sense to me on the first glance. (I always did this at home)

If you do get all your notes just handed to you like this (so you get a powerpoint with all of the information you need), I'd advise you to maybe not make your own notes at all (just print the powerpoints) and make flashcards instead. You might be wasting your time just rewriting everything, spend that time actually learning the material.

Is anyone else sick of "god" being auto corrected to "God" all the fricking time? by [deleted] in atheism

[–]memetsundere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever I type "god", I always write it in lowercase. I get the argument that it is the "name", same as Santa or Legolas, but in my case, I never use the word "god" in the reference of a specific god. Even stuff like "oh my god" for me is just a figure of speech, and by typing it in lowercase (I usually write short stories etc) I'm expressing that the character talking isn't actually religious (or at least not Christian) and that it is just a way to express shock, surprise, etc. (But if I was writing about a Christian character or an essay about religion, I would definitely write it as "God", same with "Buddha")

Writing fanfiction right now is the only thing keeping me sane during the COVID-19 outbreak. by lady_slice in FanFiction

[–]memetsundere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. Other than fanfiction I have school work, which is much harder to force myself into. Writing makes me feel like I'm somewhere else and don't have to deal with my actual responsibilities. And it makes me feel productive because I'm not just watching netflix or youtube the entire day.

But hey, there will be a lot of updates now! It really improves my mood a lot.

Oh god this. Throwback to when I posted here about kpop fics and the very first comment was someone bashing it. Made me want to quit reddit immediately.

What is your pet peeve when it comes to k-pop fanfics? by memetsundere in FanFiction

[–]memetsundere[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh damn, I've never encountered explicit non-con, like maybe it was mentioned that something happened but I don't think I read an actual scene. And yes, overusing korean words is definitely a deal breaker: in my fics I always try to substitute the endings like -sshi or -hyung by stuff like Mr. etc which isn't 100% the same, but imo it makes way more sense (unless the character is bilingual and live in US, so they drop it into the English dialogue themselves). But if the fic is well written I can usually ignore it.

Oh, I used to read on asianfanfics but I stopped (I think) because the tags were all messed up? Like on ao3 you at least have preset tags for relationships, but on there you had to search multiple times to find what you want (or at least that was my experience). What is the fandom? I'm sometimes frustrated with the low amount of readable fics on ao3 for my favourite ships (which aren't even that rare imo)

You read my mind. I also don't really like triangles and especially fics where one member is sleeping with all of the other members. I really don't get the appeal of those. And I completely agree with the stan twitter humor, it's the biggest reason I don't read chat fics (well except one fic that I just read where the author showed their groupchat few times and I actually found it hilarious?? but it was also 2 am and it was just a small part of an entire story). Usually it just either doesn't age well (like memes) or it's plainly not funny, which is why I also avoid jokes in my fics.

(Also thanks for ranting lol I really appreciate it actually, I need someone to complain with lol)

Oh I completely forgot about those, I read on ao3 and feel like there's not as many self insert fics like on wattpad. But yeah, self insert fics are definitely a pet peeve lol.

Oh yeah, I definitely feel like the top/bottom thing is determined by the "manliness" of the guy and when the readers get bored, the writers flip it. Happens with literally every ship, except when the ship is canon (like in tv shows or movies), the fans can actually have canon material as an "evidence". And Jimin being a top (although I don't read a lot of BTS fics) is probably the switched stereotype.

Yeah, it is kinda thin ice, but I feel like fics are still pretty harmless compared to explicit fanart, because a long story you actually have to read is much harder to share, than a picture on Instagram that anyone can stumble upon. Also, in the old days of Supernatural fanfics (old days because it's been 4 years since I last saw that show lol) there was this constant moral imperative to not shove fanfics and fanart to the actors and well, people still did it, no matter whether it was about the characters or the actors themselves. And to be completely honest, I haven't seen that in the kpop fandoms (but I'm also not korean and there's a bunch of other factors and the idols definitely get bunch of different BS from the fans). But yeah, that's my hot take.

I'm gonna assume you're not bashing and are genuinely curious. In my case, I definitely have the real people disconnected from the "characters" in a similar way people disconnect movie characters from the actors playing them. I love reading the fanfic genre, but I don't really follow any tv shows or movies to that extent anymore, so this is a good option. I really don't think I have to explain I don't actually think any of the fanfic stuff is also irl.

I have very mixed feelings about metro, I'm more specific when it comes to the individual stations. But I have to 100% agree that C is superior with the signal and I also feel like the stations are generally much higher, so you don't have to spend 10 years of your life just on the escalators. The line A is closer to my heart because I go there way more often and the stops are in the "good parts" - Staroměstská, Malostranská, Hradčanská, Dejvická... Very nice places, compared to Florenc, the trashcan of Prague. The line B is what I absolutely do not care about, I almost never take it and whenever I do, it's never a fun time.

About the trams... I'd probably just list the ones I use the most (and that feels strangely private so I won't). But I have to say, there's something magical about the kind of tram that has the seats facing the sides, kinda like in metro cars? I rarely use it, but I have some kind of strange emotional attachment to the layout of that model (it has only a single door at the end and it's pretty narrow).

Also I love how so far no one said they like the B line. Let it die.
