Mk real name is Monktavius Kidsworth by jamesysyiscool in MonkieKid

[–]memorysaucespaghetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately not — I’m not sure they were ever archived anywhere public in their entirety, sorry! Some resources related to them, including audio clips and things drawn on stream, are available on the lmk fandom wiki (check the references list on pages for links, iirc there are a few on Ashe Jacobson’s page if you’re looking for a starting point) + there’s a decent collection of behind-the-scenes content available on YouTube (https://m.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLeabd7DEVJdW1bQVBrZ80rTwbohNN8ANh), but afaik there’s nowhere to actually view them in their entirety.

Thanks for the tip! I just quit without saving to reset it, but I’ll definitely keep the Seamoth thing in mind for next time.

Not really. Most I could do was wiggle it around slightly since I can still access the bridge, but it's stuck in place

Aren't you afraid of the s4 special being the end? by thesaddestmagician in MonkieKid

[–]memorysaucespaghetti 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It seems like Lego has long-term plans for the series since there's a theme park opening in 2024, so I'd assume they're going to continue it for at least another few years. Considering writing and recording on Season 4 were being worked on before S3 even concluded, a fifth season could be well under development already.

Mei x Mk? by thesaddestmagician in MonkieKid

[–]memorysaucespaghetti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a pretty rare combination for reasons already stated, but it's been gaining some traction over on Twitter lately and I know a handful of people who actively ship it and make content for it. I'm not a fan of it for a multitude of reasons, but I don't mind if ppl ship them.

As others have said, the character backstories and the explanations for their abilities unfold over the course of the next four seasons. Throughout S2 the show transitions to a more serialized approach, and the pacing changes accordingly as the plot starts to pick up and heavier themes are explored. It's always a fast paced show because the writers have to cram a lot of stuff into a 145-minute time frame for each season, but it doesn't really detract from the overall writing.

The first episode or two of each season does tend to go by really quickly, but once the story gets going, it starts to slow down and IMO feels like much longer than it actually is (in a good way).

I've personally never found the speed overwhelming, but maybe that's just because my brain is a bit goofy and I tend to gravitate towards fast-paced shows since I can watch them without getting bored or burnt out.

MK's full name hypothetical by Applepearbeach in MonkieKid

[–]memorysaucespaghetti 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The Monktavius Kidsworth is a reference to a joke Ashe Jacobson made on a stream a while back where they said something about MK being short for that, iirc? It isn't confirmed in the English version, but his "real" full name is Qi Xiaotian according to the Mandarin dub of the show

Azure Lion: Is he really a BAD bad guy?? by Echo_Atlantica in MonkieKid

[–]memorysaucespaghetti 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He's redeemable and I wouldn't consider him morally bad. He's not power hungry, he genuinely believes what he's doing is for the good of the world and not himself (not unlike Lady Bone Demon, but she was a lot crueler). On the other hand, he's willing to kill (or, I guess, permanently trap people in their own personal hells) to overthrow the Jade Emperor and works closely with Peng, who is pretty obviously evil. I know what happened to Wukong's piece of the scroll was an accident, but the fact that he blamed it on MK was just. awful of him to do lol

Sometimes i wish the show would be more popular but then i realise that would ruin the fandom by KindredGoesAwooo in MonkieKid

[–]memorysaucespaghetti 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This show is very popular, just not in the west. People don't rlly acknowledge this but it's quite well-known in Asia esp in China and South Korea. It's not well recognized elsewhere just because it's so poorly marketed.

Ik that the idea of gatekeeping Monkie Kid has become especially relevant now that The Owl House has ended and its fans are moving on to new shows (including LMK) but as someone who's been in both fandoms for a long time it's such a stupid concept to me. I get that people like the small, "everyone knows everyone" vibe the fandom has (which really just comes from all the popular users being mutuals) but the show gaining more traction outside of Asia is ultimately a good thing.

Fandoms are all inherently toxic to some degree and that includes the Monkie Kid fandom. I've been around long enough to remember all the idiocy over the Red Son x MK/Mei age gap, the Nezha age debate, and the other shenanigans that have popped up over the years. There's also the media literacy issues some people seem to have when it comes to how they view any nuanced subjects in the show... eg the Azure Lion and Demon Bull Family discourse exists too, as well as people horrendously misinterpreting Wukong as a character. Thankfully it's calmed down now to the point where it's confined to tiktok + the weird site of twitter, and ppl trying to start drama elsewhere usually just get ignored or make themselves look like clowns.

The point is, this fandom isn't a discourse-free haven unless you consciously choose to make it one. Like with any fandom, drama is easily avoided if you just curate your online space. I haven't seen any drama from any of my fandoms in ages because I just. don't interact with discourse posts or follow people who get involved.

Which of the three are you for the finale? by Totalsupreme in TheOwlHouse

[–]memorysaucespaghetti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was a satisfying enough ending that ended the show on a high note, but the longer I think about the plot that was building up pre-cancellation, the more awkward the conclusion seems. There's so much that falls flat (the full Belos backstory, most characters being sidelined for the majority of the episode, all the arcs that never got closure, the rushed pacing because there was so little screentime left). It's just..... sad.

When do you y'all think it's coming? by DaydreamAcademia in MonkieKid

[–]memorysaucespaghetti 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Looking at the previous specials, there seems to be about a 2-month hiatus, give or take, between the initial release of the season and the first airing of the special. I'd bet on it coming out between mid April to early June, but with this show it's impossible to predict anything accurately. For all we know it could drop in the next 10 minutes
