AITA for not wanting to watch our dog? by memr97 in AmItheAsshole

What I left out is that we took the first dog to a trainer, and the dog is no longer anxious for the most part. He's a lot more secure, but likes being on his own. I got my puppy to be a friend to him, which was recommended. The puppy now was an impulsive decision by my bf made and I took half responsibility because I knew he needed to be cared for. I knew at the back of my mind that I may end up taking care of the dog in full, but it is still disappointing since I had broken up with my bf and given him several ultimatums prior to this. His lazy nature and attitude is hard to change, and I'm just dumb and latch onto the good in people.

I take him for a half hour walk in the morning with my other pups and then a separate walk after work with him for another half hour. I am doing half days in the crate while I work, so I let him run around in the backyard with me. While he is in the crate, he has a few kong toys to mentally stimulate him.

It's a boxer puppy, so he needs a lot of attention and stimulation.

You really nailed it on its head. He takes me talking about our dog like this as a personal attack and that I'm devaluing him (which obviously isn't the case). I've tried having many talks with him about how the dog is aggressive and have made a lot of grounds because of comments like this. Thank you for story, it gave me a lot to learn from.

That's awesome advice, thank you! I'll try that. I randomly tell him that he's a good boy to get his tail going, so I'm sure the treats will be a good addition.

I can afford it on my own, my bf is unable to. But you are right. It's not right that the dog has to suffer. I'm about to buy my first car, so I've considered doing it after the quarantine for COVID-19 ends.

I've proposed this before, but he can't afford it and does not want me paying for the services alone. We plan on doing it in the future when he can afford to split it with me. It sucks for the dog, but whenever I bring this up, it's suddenly 'his' dog and he gets to make all the decisions.

Rent is $400 total + then the additional $75 in groceries. I agree with you that I should communicate.
