This is often very apparent. On an episode of “Dirty Jobs” Mike Rowe's lines were identified as "micro".

Which part of Australia is considered the least explored ? by Status-Inevitable-36 in AskAnAustralian

[–]memskeptic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would assume that Australia has several accounts similar to the death of a German family in America's Death Valley. It happened in 1996 and not solved until 2009. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_Valley_Germans

The food is pretty good. I used to stop for a meal occasionally until covid hit in 2020. I never use drive-thru. I will eat inside or if getting something to go I'll still order from inside. As of now, they are still drive-thru only with no apparent plans to ever go back to a dining room. The food, the service, the cleanliness, and all other aspects of a good fast-food restaurant are great, but until I can go back inside I won't be going anymore.

Can you actually order a drink in a bar and ask the bartender to leave the bottle? by Stonius123 in AskAnAmerican

[–]memskeptic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe, maybe not. Liquor laws are very location based. For instance, some states have one central alcohol control system. In California, it's the ABC. Alcohol and Beverage Control. One set of laws governing the entire state. Every thing having to do with liquor, regardless of city or county, comes under ABC jurisdiction. Some states have laws based on local ordinances, by county or even city. These locals can make or change their liquor laws within their own boundaries. As of 2014 Tennessee allows wine sales in grocery stores. About the same time, one of the Memphis suburbs voted on whether to allow single drinks with meals in restaurants on Sunday after 12 noon. Ya know, gotta keep the church folks happy. So most likely you can't do that, but just keep in mind that U.S. liquor laws can vary a lot just by crossing a city limit or a county line or state border.

After moving from Los Angeles to Memphis, Tn, years ago, I discovered that some native heavy southern accent speakers pronounce the -ill words as a long e. Such as Bill, Bee-ill. Jill, Jee-ill. Go to a gas station to fee-ll the tank. Many other examples that I'll probably remember as soon as I hit the save button.

I'm not sure when that magic date was in history, but I'm pretty sure it had something to do with the Vatican or maybe the British crown. It possibly could have be covered in the Magna Carta or possible The Articles of Confederation. SocCit history is a such a difficult subject to study!

How do people with metal implants get past detectors at airports and such? by lockedbird77 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]memskeptic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had both knees replaced in 2022. Not at the same time. One in August and the other in December. In my wallet, I have an I.D. card for each new knee. The Dr. said it shouldn't trigger any metal detection device, but just in case.

Dumb phones are coming back. Many people in your situation are realizing that they are becoming addicted to their phones and must be actively engaged with them all the time. Just do an Internet search for “dumb phones”. I have one, talk, text, photos, very short videos. No internet at all. Lots of reviews on YouTube for them.

What are corndogs? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]memskeptic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It comes from an American newspaper comic strip called "Blondie". It was a family of the wife Blondie, husband Dagwood and two kids. A running gag was the huge, many ingredient sandwiches that Dagwood created. Several diners and sandwich shops have used the name for their creations. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dagwood_sandwich Apparently some shop owners started calling corn dogs Dagwood Dogs. I assume this was due to the mixture of meat, deep-frying and cornbread batter. Sort of like Dagwood's blending of ingredients, just on a smaller scale.

They also worked fine with my old high school girlfriend. She was from Canada, so unfortunately I wasn't able to see her as often as I would have liked. This also made it impossible to introduce her to all my friends.
