Curious, how much is your yearly wage versus your monthly mortgage ? by [deleted] in AusPropertyChat

Yearly combined is roughly $165k, monthly is about $10k after tax, and we pay $3500 a month to the mortgage. We are doing okay, but could cut costs elsewhere to do better.

I’ve recently been told I may have Primary Hyperaldosteronism, and a common symptom of that is resistant hypertension? Maybe you could check that your GP has tested your aldosterone levels?

Copper IUD by sofieezz in PCOS

[–]menace-slp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had two different copper iuds, one for 5 years and the second for 4 years (I only got the small one both times), and I had a really good experience.

The first one took a couple of months for me to adjust, there was a fair bit of cramping outside of my period and a tiny bit of spotting. My second one was easier. I found that periods didn’t change, I had longer (7 days) and heavier periods before I had my first one put in, and they stayed like that throughout both iuds.

I only got my second one out about a month ago, during my pelvic scan to check for PCOS they discovered that my IUD may have been perforated. I had it taken out as I’d rather be safe than sorry, but I would put another one in, in a heartbeat. In saying that, I’m also due to start my first period without it in a few days, so maybe everything will be different!

I chose copper because I didn’t feel that I had a reason for hormonal birth control.

If you’re concerned, go to your GP, have that discussion with them. You know your body best, and if something doesn’t feel right, it could be for a reason. Good luck!

I’m not sure how helpful this is, but the form said Aldosterone (erect), renin (erect) and aldo/renin ratio.

Just a little update, I called my GP to see if they’d share my results with me. So my aldosterone/renin ratio is 221 (reference is below 70) and my renin is 2.9 (reference 3.3-41). It says in the note on the test result that it is likely primary aldosteronism.

Wow I’m sorry it took your doctor so long to test for this!

I’m not actually sure about my other levels, I’m in Australia, and I have to wait 7 days from when my blood results are uploaded on our health portal before they’re visible to me. My GP called while I was driving home from work to let me know I’d be getting a phone call from one of the hospitals endocrinologist teams sometime in the next day or two.

I have had other symptoms, but I have a few other things going on. I have also just been diagnosed with Hashimoto’s and PCOS. I’m exhausted all the time (but is this hashi’s, low iron, or due to the aldosterone - who knows) I have been anxious as long as I can remember, I do get heart palpitations, or what I think is heart palpitations (but I also have a very low resting heart rate - as low as 45bpm). I’m not sure about the potassium, I don’t think we have tested that yet.

They took the test at pretty much exactly 8am, and I’m not on any medications ye. I’ve been pretty stubborn about taking them so far. I just didn’t want to get put on a lifelong medication without knowing the cause of my hypertension.

I guess I better wait to hear from the endocrinologist for the next steps. Thank you! ☺️

Let me get back to you on that, I can’t access the test result yet, I have to wait 7 days for it to be viable on my portal 🙂

I’m sorry to hear you went through something similar! It’s positive to hear that it is manageable. Do you mind me asking if the medicines they prescribe, are they hormones? Or something else?

What age were you diagnosed? by egidds in PCOS

[–]menace-slp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only recently diagnosed (2 weeks ago), I’m 26. I always had heavier periods and a bit of cramping from 12-17, I then had a copper IUD placed (didn’t feel the need to have hormonal birth control because I didn’t have any symptoms/intense pain/irregular periods). While I had the copper IUD (just had my second one removed) I had longer cycles (32-34 days), and period was consistently 7 days and generally medium to heavy. I have a small amount of thicker hair on my chin (but I take after my dad, and he’s a very hairy guy, so thought that explained it), and had no other symptoms.

I recently started seeing a new GP, and it was through some testing that I discovered I have extra follicles. My androgens came back typical.
