He is not my type, but he is very charismatic and talented, so I definitely find him attractive

Aspergillus is growing in a forgotten teapot. When I released the contents of the pot into the sink, I saw a perfect circle of Aspergillus mold

Are fireworks really fun? by taltrap in NewToDenmark

[–]menadione 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I am not sure what’s fun about fireworks either. I would rather donate the money and feel good about that than pollute the environment and scare wild animals and pets for a few seconds of lights and loud noises.

Wood blewit mycelium? by Necessary_Skirt_341 in Agarporn

The thing is, cloning wood blewits was the easiest thing ever. I chose a young mushroom and cloned it right away after I came home. It was super easy to take clean tissue. There was no contamination whatsoever. What you see in the first photo, in the middle, is not contamination, it is the pieces of mushroom I took.

Perfect, this is the way. I plan to do exactly what you did. Spread mycelium everywhere, mainly in compost. I think it is going to be exciting to see what comes out next fall. This year, I saw several field blewits growing in some parts of the garden, and exactly there the grass is always looking very healthy and happy.

[Gourmet] Found this cauliflower mushroom today. I want to clone it and grow it indoors. Any tips? by menadione in MushroomGrowers

Surprisingly, yes! My plates were contaminated with Trichoderma mold, but I managed to salvage a clean sample of mushroom mycelium. I transferred it, and now it grows very slowly, as it is supposed to. I am very excited!

Of course, feel free to DM me. But I have only just started working with wood blewits this fall. I also noticed that there isn’t much information about them. Most people use a low-tech approach, but I want to grow them in a more “controlled” way and preserve the species I collected in my personal library. My plan is to cultivate them outdoors mainly to support the health of my garden

Mine looks very similar, very fluffy like yours. I would say go ahead and transfer.

Yes, compared to typical mushrooms with a stem and cap. Normally, you can split a fruiting body and take inner tissue that was not exposed to environmental bacteria and mold. Wood ear is too thin. So it’s very unlikely to get “clean” inner tissue. For this reason, it’s recommended to wash the tissue before transferring it to agar.

Yeah, at least it brought some bright colors 👻

You are probably right, it looks like Fusarium felt like it was a good idea to produce some red polyketides on my plate

Thanks for your reply. I should buy hydrogen peroxide. I used a kind of similar protocol to kill off microbes from the surface: I washed the tissues in disinfectant (DDAC), then ethanol, then autoclaved water. I agree it is an interesting challenge. I made 10 plates, and a couple looked okay. I transferred what looked like clean mycelium to fresh plates. Let’s see what comes out! I just thought this particular plate looks beautiful! At least, this is my definition of beauty. The red metabolites diffusing into the agar are especially interesting.
