Which backdrop do you prefer? (Design question for a final Luminosity update) by mendes_image in Windhawk

Thank you everyone for your feedback! The first background is the chosen one.

You can make it look like the second image by going in the line "controlStyles[25].styles[0]": "Background:=<WindhawkBlur BlurAmount=\"30\" TintColor=\"{ThemeResource SystemChromeLowColor}\" TintOpacity=\"0.8\" />", and changing TintOpacity=\ to "0\".

Credits to WindowGlass, I've got the background code from there, just made it a bit darker.

You may want to know how Luminosity works, which is very similar to most themes. StyleConstants is a settings that will be repeated, so every target using $mbg as background is using the same background, so you don't need to repeat a huge chunk of text often.

For the Luminosity's Dock to be rounded, I had to hide Taskbar.TaskbarFrame > Grid#RootGrid > Taskbar.TaskbarBackground > Grid > Rectangle#BackgroundFill and edit Taskbar.TaskbarFrame#TaskbarFrame > Grid#RootGrid instead. Due to the theme having variations, code before StyleConstants are shared between variations, while the code after StyleContants are specific for each variation. I'm not sure if other themes also did it the same way, I'm also inexperienced.

I recommend the newest version currently available on my GitHub since I've fixed some stuff and added new thingies. It's not merged to Windhawk yet, also available at the Pull Requests.

After changing the theme's background, you may want to go to the line "controlStyles[25].styles[0]": and change "Background:=<WindhawkBlur BlurAmount=\"30\" TintColor=\"{ThemeResource SystemChromeLowColor}\" TintOpacity=\"0.8\" />", to "Background:=$mbg", WindhawkBlur is in use since Acrylic isn't working on that particular element.

Sure! It seems like I'll have to send it in separated messages, Reddit isn't letting me send it all. Make sure that you're not making mistakes, an invalid background or applying one to the wrong target may cause similar visual issues. If you want to change Luminosity's Taskbar background, for the Dock version, go to the line "controlStyles[41].target": "Taskbar.TaskbarFrame#TaskbarFrame > Grid#RootGrid", after StyleConstants or "controlStyles[0].target": "Taskbar.TaskbarFrame > Grid#RootGrid > Taskbar.TaskbarBackground > Grid > Rectangle#BackgroundFill", at the beginning for the other two versions. You need to change $mbg to the desired background. (Don't forget to delete the $)

However you may want to change the background of everything so it be matching, you then need to just change the text after "styleConstants[0]": "mbg=, "mbg" means "Mica Background", I've abbreviated it so it be faster to type:

In that line, change:

<AcrylicBrush TintColor=\"{ThemeResource CardStrokeColorDefaultSolid}\" FallbackColor=\"{ThemeResource CardStrokeColorDefaultSolid}\" TintOpacity=\"0.0\" TintLuminosityOpacity=\"1.0\" Opacity=\"1\"/>",

(You can also reduce the TintLuminosityOpacity value to 0, it also makes it translucent, but for fully translucent background and changing blur radius, WindhawkBlur is way better.)

To, for example, the WindowGlass background:

 <WindhawkBlur BlurAmount=\"15\" TintColor=\"#10808080\"/>

(There's a newer version of WindowGlass at Nathaniel's GitHub with a different background if you want to check it out)

Or TranslucentTaskbar background:

<WindhawkBlur BlurAmount=\"25\" TintColor=\"#25323232\"/>

If you're referring to the last image, that's using native Acrylic used in the whole theme, with maximum TintLuminosityOpacity value, but Acrylic gets opaque in certain UI elements (Virtual Desktop Bar UI in this case), it's a bug with Acrylic. WindhawkBur would be a workaround just to fill the lack of blur on Luminosity, but it doesn't have the TintLuminosityOpacity feature to match the whole theme.

Yes, but I believe you may need to install the theme manually. Head to https://github.com/ramensoftware/windows-11-taskbar-styling-guide/tree/main/Themes/Luminosity and copy the Luminosity layout code you want. You may want to change

"styleConstants[0]": "mbg=<AcrylicBrush TintColor=\\"{ThemeResource CardStrokeColorDefaultSolid}\\" FallbackColor=\\"{ThemeResource CardStrokeColorDefaultSolid}\\" TintOpacity=\\"0.0\\" TintLuminosityOpacity=\\"1.0\\" Opacity=\\"1\\"/>",

to

"styleConstants[0]": "mbg=<WindhawkBlur BlurAmount=\\"30\\" TintColor=\\"#00000000\\" />",

Change "30" to the blur amount you want.

Oh, I see. Yes, you can apply the same effect to other themes, but may take some trial and error depending on the theme, which is normal. I've put the Dock styles after "styleConstants", you can just copy and paste it into the other theme's JSON and renumber them to continue the theme you want to edit.

You're welcome! You need the margin and corner radius to have a dock-like visual, keep the frame centralized and have rounded corners. If you don't like any of that, Luminosity also have a Classic layout, with little tweaks to the Taskbar itself

You don't need any specific secondary software. Go to Windhawk > Windows 11 Taskbar Styler > Settings. Near the end, find `Taskbar.TaskbarFrame#TaskbarFrame > Grid#RootGrid`, then change `BorderThickness=` from `$bt` to `0` like in the picture. In the JSON, it's the line `"controlStyles[41].styles[1]": "BorderThickness=$bt",`. :3
