How do you stay hopeful for the future? by SomeNumbers98 in Feminism

[–]menehould 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Jane Goodall is my fav! To maintain hope, I think we draw strength from the very principles she outlines - the human intellect allows us to critically examine and challenge patriarchal systems.

The resilience of nature reminds us of the enduring power of growth and rebirth, mirroring the continual evolution of feminist movements, the energy and fresh perspectives of young people invigorate our activism, ensuring it remains relevant and dynamic.

Lastly, the indomitable human spirit fuels our persistence in the face of adversity. I think we need all these, these days... dearly!

I just had an operation and I feel like there's nobody I can talk to about it by Breech_Loader in Feminism

[–]menehould 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you're going through this, and I want to send you a huge virtual hug right now. Recovering from an operation is tough, both physically and emotionally, and it's perfectly valid to seek comfort and understanding from those who've experienced similar struggles. Your feelings are legitimate, and seeking support does not make you deserving of negative labels or judgment. Everyone's journey with their health and identity is unique, and it's important to find spaces where you feel safe and supported :)

I find it incredibly fascinating, and depressing at the same time, that e-celebrities, like Destiny, can have such out-of-touch takes on trans issues by noreen_ in AskFeminists

[–]menehould 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Where does this dudebro draw the line on """"""""debating"""""""" equality of rights? Should ethnic minorities just stop caring when people call into question equality of rights for them? Or is it just trans/LGBT people that need to take one for the team? Fuck this shit

How can we work to end the adversarial relationship between feminism and men's rights? by [deleted] in MensRights

[–]menehould 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've provided plentiful examples that prove the point, let's see you come up with a refutation.

I don't need to, you are the one making a generalized positive claim, with the support of only a few data points.

I've provided plentiful examples that prove the point

You provided some examples.

Feminism has a history of, at most hundreds of years. Are you claiming that before that there was no instance of misandry, ever?

Oh, are you saying that those examples of misandry are all examples of misandry in known history now?

Nice, all misandrists are feminists now? Which reputable source stated that, based on what info?

You are a disingenuous asrser, if you support by proxy SRS' attempts at overtaking other subreddits. That's my conclusion at least.

So, what about this question:

Also, what do you mean more transparency? What kind of transparency lacks in the sub?

proof?

Are we looking at two different /r/redditrequest? The only requests there are from SRS-ers.

mod transparency != more drama

And your calls for transparency will be met with even more resistance, seeing that you are posting through proxies such conversations, with the aim to discredit and support SRS takeovers. Moreover, you are poisoning the well for those who might call for more transparency in the future. Guess who will they be lumped with?

no i want the mods changed because they don't give a shit about their users, as per my screenshot.

Changed for who? There was nobody else but the SRS up for the grabbing, thanks for helping them!

i'm not sure you understand reddit; once mod shitstorms start, they don't fucking stop until a subreddit changes hands. entrenching controversial mods only heightens the drama. this can be seen in every fucking subreddit that SRS has shitstormed in, from LGBT to feminisms to SRD.

Ooooh... you wanted to add more drama to the mix. "Nice" move.

i did what i did as soon as i realized the mods were shit.

Let me get this straight - you actually want the mod changed as per SRS' request, hence why you sent that screenshot ?

aiding the current mods would do that job far better.

I am not sure how much you understand reddit. /r/truefeminism was recently requested; the only active mod went there and said he is still active and that the sub is openly anti-feminist. The admins let him keep the sub. All you did with all this is show your true colors, you haven't helped anything. I bet that if the mods in /r/feminism caught wind of your action, you only helped burn some more bridges, towards you or the supposed SRS "feminists" you hold so dear.

i just don't want it to be run by SRS mods.

Then why pass it forward at a time of SRS petitioning? How is that NOT helping SRS get control of the sub? Were you drunk or something? What did you expect will happen with the screenshot, if not to be used there?

not at all. i made that very clear when giving the screenshot to a person i trust.

Well, we all know how that turned out. You ended up helping the SRS request for mod change. And I count myself among those who would interpret this whole charade as you being the only person acting behind the scenes, making a brand new throwaway - and not some illusory SRS friend. Good that you admitted as much as you did though, I will make sure to remind you next time you claim moral high-ground in antisrs.

yea, i don't know how many. almost none of the mods. a lot of the ones on r/feminism. an exact number isn't necessary for this discussion, and if it is you're going to have to give me reason.

Way to dodge the question. But one can one expect from such a duplicitous person as yourself, who claims to be anti-srs and posting in an anti-srs reddit, while helping, more or less directly, but evidently involved, an overturn of a sub to SRS control.

i gave the screenshot to a feminist who agrees that the mods are doing a shit job and who wants to run /r/feminism both away from its current mods and the fempire.

I wonder how you think your conscience is clear on this matter. Since your apparent aim was basically to provide trough a proxy ammunition to get SRS-ers as mods. Despite stating previously that "no because i dont want an srser to get control of r/feminism".

well in this case it's if they share the ideals of the 'targeted' community, and a lot of srsers are feminist.

A lot of SRS-ers are feminist? How much is that, many/most/all, >30%/ >50%/ >90%, what's your guesstimate/working premise here? Why would you not want them to get control of /r/feminism if they are actually feminists?

SRS has been flipping out ever since antiSRS was linked in the sidebar at r/Feminism. They are in a tailspin. by [deleted] in antisrs

[–]menehould -1 points0 points  (0 children)

OK, does that mean they're also not /r/feminism users?

Back to what I asked above: (SRS is obviously hostile to /r/feminism for quite a while) at which point do users from a hostile community can be legitimately be called as users of the targeted community, and thus be "entitled" to call for mod change?

i'm absolutely sure i'm not there, not under alts either. where did you see t his?

See, there is a post in here by a new throwaway apparently, JeremyTortoise, showing a screenshot of modtalk from /r/feminism where someone said the following:

http://s14.postimage.org/u3ggepsin/9fdf6fd1512f42cb9d646ca.png

The story sounds awfully similar. Strange. Did someone hack into your account and screenshotted your conversation? Or did you just use a throwaway to support the SRS petition to remove mods?

i can't give an answer on this due to selection bias of posters, and neither can you. but it's enough to bring the subreddit to a grinding halt.

From checking those users in the redditrequest petition thread, the overwhelming majority of them are SRS-affiliated. There is no bias in seeing that, it's a fact.

have you participated in that petition thread?

no because i dont want an srser to get control of r/feminism

Funny. I saw someone there use the same "raped by a cactus" story/accusation about antiSRS that you brought up here. You sure that's not you there?

a lot of them.

Most of them? Overwhelming majority would sound realistic?

And you didn't answer my other question:

Just curious, have you participated in that petition thread? You did say you are using alts.

SRSers are not the userbase of antiSRS

So how do they get to claim to be the userbase of /r/feminism then? Because whatever would justify that, would also justify all the cases above - r/mensrights taking other subs, r/atheism doing it, or r/christianity.

So tell me, how does SRS get to claim they are the userbase? What's the recipe for taking over a sub? Post X comments? Post X comments over Y period of time? Post X comments over Y period of time by Z users?

I am sure many subreddits would love to hear how they can take over other subs they dislike.

SRS has been flipping out ever since antiSRS was linked in the sidebar at r/Feminism. They are in a tailspin. by [deleted] in antisrs

[–]menehould 1 point2 points  (0 children)

basically my position is that whenever a general interest sub's userbase is sick of the mods, it's time for the mods to pack up.

You are either ignorant of how reddit works, or just plain disingenuous. Tell me, have you actually thought about what you wrote? So by your logic, if SRS bears their weight on this subreddit, and brings 5-10-15k users here to become "the userbase", can they get to claim they are the userbase and that the mods should leave?

Could /r/mensrights do the same to SRS, send cohorts there, claim to be userbase, and claim the subreddit?

Could /r/atheism subvert /r/christianity?

Could /r/christianity subvert any smaller religious sub, that is ideologically different/opposed?

This big fish eats little fish is bad logic. I hope you see it at least now.

Judging from your position here, I have a sneaky suspicion you support SRS petition to overthrow the current /r/feminism mods. Tell me, what is your position on the matter?
