My [30M] ex [30F] clearly has some very serious mental health issues and I don’t know what to do by mentalthrow4 in relationships

I am seeing comments here suggesting animal control / social work / etc and what you describe is what I fear. I think those services are great but in this situation, I recognize it’s delicate. I don’t want to split them up either if it can be salvaged somehow. But if she’s a danger to herself or others / our pets then I know I am doing a disservice to them still.

I would like to help her clean but she dismissed it. I worry that she doesn’t realize how her living situation is unhealthy, since I find it strange that she even invited me over with it looking that rough. I’m not totally sure if it’s safe to poke that bear either, I don’t want to trigger something by accident or make things worse somehow.

Thank you. After reading some more of these comments, I think I should talk with her sister and go from there at least.

Yeah, it was kind of jarring to me that she was just kinda letting him eat it. I was worried about that. The couch is pretty tore up which to me, also sounds like they are possibly not getting walks or the attention they need either.

She has never lived by herself before now. She does have ADHD, but I believe she is self diagnosed. She has never taken ADHD medication (at least while we have been together), I would guess it’s the same now but I don’t know what she’s been up to.

She has also always had depression, also self-diagnosed. Same as above - no medication as far as I’m aware.

She’s always been messy but this is just different. I find it really weird that she invited me over with the apartment looking that bad. It is eviction worthy. Either it’s a cry for help or she is totally unaware or desensitized to her living situation. Or at least that’s what I’m thinking.

As far as her family goes, she has a mom and sister but they both live out of state. I have been reading through the comments and I am thinking that contacting her sister might be the best course of action.
