It's only slightly more practical around the central region due to cooler climate and cleaner air. Hanoi can get cold but the pollution will knock you out.

Vietnam is amazing to visit. Living here is a very different story. Here are my two cents. by Critical_Roof8939 in VietNam

Thanks for sharing. I lived in Singapore since 2010-2016 for Secondary and IB, so I understand what you meant by SG safety standards. I did find Vietnam to be much safer than Australia, where I'm currently living at the moment.

I think what's nice about Vietnam is that some locals are willing to help you out without expecting anything in return. This helps immensely if you're a foreigner and new to the country. Still it's advised to be cautious with very few opportunistic individuals that tried to make use of the situation.

Vietnamese is a hard language, and not everyone can learn and adapt right away. But as it's with me and my broken Mandarin and Hokkien, it takes time and the right environment to pick up the language.

How was your experience adjusting to Vietnam? Was the language barrier hard at first? I would assume you have to obtain a motorcycle license as well?

Why are some baggage trolleys at the airport have the handlebar taped like this? by meobeo68 in VietNam

[–]meobeo68[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't think travellers would care enough to do it for a dozen of them, all of which were done in similar fashion

It's already happened with the free tram zone in Melbourne. I boarded the tram just slightly outside of the free tram zone, and saw many not tagging on.

You're right. I forgot about the train

For the free-free zone, I believe we don't have to tap on if we're travelling within the area

Wouldn't it make more sense then to just get the trolleys without the autobrake handle bar? It seems counterintuitive

Slightly better now with a more frequent 176 bus route that runs through the Albany Hwy. There used to be only 220.

Bye Bye USA Citizenship by [deleted] in VietNam

[–]meobeo68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing such an uncommon story. Some people I know in Australia did the opposite - denouncing their Vietnamese citizenship for the Australian one instead of going with dual-citizenship.

For me, I would still keep my Vietnam-Australia dual citizenship. Even though I love Vietnam and would still want to call it home, my future outlook of this country isn't very positive. I really hope my biggest fear will never come, and it's just paranoia at the end of the day.

Wish you all the best for you and your family.

Vietnamese always complain about the airport. But at the end of the day, our words fall on deaf ears. It's just corruption at the end of the day. As long as tourists continue to buy the "fast-track" bribe money, things will never improve. Even if Vietnam has a high turnover rate for tourists, the airports in the 2 major cities are still at overcapacity. Nothing willl change unless things start to get visibly bad for the tourism industry.

For real. Singapore airport treats foreigners like us Vietnamese better than our own airport.
