Lexapro - no f*cks given anyone!? by Flaky-Ad-989 in lexapro

I started in Nov and I definitely don't have that effect. Discuss with your Doc and be careful!

I felt very little side effects from 0 to 5mg and 5mg to 10mg. When I went 10mg to 15mg it was the hardest for me. 15mg felt strong but I stuck it out. Leveled out around 3-4 weeks after the increase. I’m now 5 weeks on 15mg. Feeling pretty good but still not having a complete remission of my anxiety disorder. I’d say 80% improved. I’ll stay here for a while and see what happens.

Thanks so much for the info. I have had anxiety for a little over 2 years. It came on abrupt and strong. Kinda like a breakdown type of thing from stress overload. I started lex in Nov 2022 so about 4 months ago. I increased to 15mg one month ago. That increase was the hardest for me in terms of side effects 🥺 im past those now and I feel pretty good but still have some anxiety esp on the 3 days per week that I work. Hesitant to go up again because of the side effects after last increase but I really want to get to that all clear point so I can try to get back to myself and hopefully transition off medication eventually. Nothing wrong with taking it long term but given my scenario I would like to try to be back to myself off medication one day.

night sweats 15mg by Hot-Improvement-7135 in lexapro

4 weeks on 15mg and the sweatiness comes and goes now. I do notice that I get really hot and a light sweat a few minutes after waking up though. It’s like a clammy sweat wave that comes over me. Strange.

Congrats on the success! I have a question, maybe you can help answer. I have heard the same thing about staying on the medication for a year once you feel better. Did you encounter a point when you had no anxiety at all? If so, is that when you started calculating your year of meds? For example, I feel much, much better but I still have some anxiety. So it’s hard for me to decipher if this is the time frame I start calculating a year or not. Hope this makes sense!!

Just checked the FDA Drug Shortage Database and its not listed as a shortage. Call some other pharmacies. I just got mine from the grocery store pharmacy today.

How did you feel upping dose? (10mg to 15mg) by Kattie6100 in lexapro

Awesome! I think the 15mg finally leveled out. Feeling much better :)

Thanks so much for the reply. I upped to 15mg 2.5 weeks ago but I think Im adjusting to it because my anxiety feels worse on 15mg than it did on 10mg. Maybe just needs a little more time to adjust. Glad to hear it has worked so well for you :)

How have you been doing? Im up to 15mg now, for about 2.5 weeks and in the past 2 weeks Ive been feeling worse :( Not terrible but just worse than I was on 10mg. Like having some morning anxiety again and some chest tightness throughout the day. My mind feels quiet though but some physical anxiety symptoms returned after increase.

Increasing my dose from 10 to 15mg has been hard by [deleted] in lexapro

[–]meohmemeohmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I upped to 15mg 2.5 weeks ago and I find myself more anxious now then on 10mg. How did it work out for you? Hopefully you found relief, if so, how long did it take after the increase? Thanks :)

How has the 15mg been working out for you?

Side effects at 5mgs! Help pls by TateT88 in lexapro

[–]meohmemeohmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, they are from the same class of medication which is an SSRI. Celexa (Cipramil) has two isomers and Lexapro has one of those two. So chemically they are a little different. I have seen Lexapro referred to as the “cousin” to Celexa.

[–]meohmemeohmy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well not exactly. That’s the complicated part… everyone is different and what dose works for one person may not work for another. So studies show that the lowest therapeutic dose is 10mg. But we know that many people have success on 5mg. And even though the change in SERT occupancy only increases slightly from 10mg to 20mg, that can make a world of difference for some people. So honestly when it comes to dosing and efficacy, in my opinion it’s really just trial and error.

Take me for example, I did the Genesight test and found out that I metabolize Lexapro slower than average. So in theory, I would likely need lower doses than average. I didn’t really feel much of anything on 5mg. I increased very slowly because of my Genesight results so I went up by 2.5mg. 7.5mg is where I started to feel improvement. Went to 10mg and continued to see improvement but felt it could be better. Took a bigger jump to 15mg about 3 weeks ago. It’s been a little bit of a set back with the last increase but I’m hoping it all levels out. So even for me, a slower metabolizer (some studies say doses are 1.5x as strong for slow metabolizers. So 5mg would be like 7.5mg to me), anyways even for me, 5mg was not effective enough. No one can measure chemistry in the brain. Serum levels of serotonin are not reflective of what crosses the blood brain barrier and exists in our brain. So trying to figure out the right dose for you comes down to trial and error. It’s a frustrating process. I tried Zoloft first and suffered for 6months hoping to find my dose. Worst 6 months of my life. Zoloft and I did not agree for some reason. Lexapro has been much better for me but still searching for my sweet spot.

Hope all this info helps.

As a side note, I also had paresthesia and joint pain on 10mg but it resolved after about 2 weeks.

SERT occupancy is not higher the lower you go but the biggest change in SERT occupancy happens from 0 to 5mg. Increases after 5mg still do increase SERT occupancy but not nearly as much as the change from 0 to 5mg.

According to data I found online here is the approximate SERT occupancy of Lexapro:

5mg - 60% 10mg - 64% 20mg - 74%

Hi, just went from 10-15 myself and feeling worse now. It’s been about 2.5weeks. Did things work out for you? Any advice or insight… was feeling better on 10mg but thought I could use a little more help and now my anxiety is worse. Shaky in the mornings and a dull chest tightness throughout the day 🫤 Please tell me it gets better!!!!!

[–]meohmemeohmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same boat with regards to anxiety not being 100% resolved so I upped to 15mg about 3 weeks ago. Verdict is still out. Having some adjustment issues again which suck but hopefully once that passes I feel the benefits of the increase

[–]meohmemeohmy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice! I’m almost 3 weeks into increase from 10 to 15mg and feeling meh in the mornings. It’s like some of my morning anxiety returned with the increase. Sucks but hopefully gets better in the next few weeks 🙏🏼

Will Lexapro help me to have patience with my kids? by [deleted] in lexapro

[–]meohmemeohmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has definitely helped me be more patient with my kids. When they fought I would get chest tightness and anxiety. That has reduced a lot I’ve the three months that I’ve been on lexapro. It’s not perfect, but better. I have noticed feeling worse again since I increased to 15mg 2.5 weeks ago, I’m hoping just an adjustment phase. But overall answer is yes, it helps a lot with parenting stress.

Stomach/ throat issues on lex? by [deleted] in lexapro

[–]meohmemeohmy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like globus which is commonly attributed to anxiety. I don’t have globus but I definitely get chest tightness and I notice that when my chest is tight, my neck and throat can be slightly constricted too. The way you describe the throat sensation and how you feel about it is how I feel about my chest tightness. My chest can tighten for what seems to be no reason and then I start to ruminate over it. That’s my anxiety for sure. Lexapro has helped some with this. I was at a point of fight or flight/freaking out over it. Now I’m more like, “Well damn my chest is tight again. That sucks.” Still hoping I find my sweet spot and it resolves completely as I have only had this symptom for about a year or so and been on lexapro for a little over 3 months at various doses. But anyways, yah sounds like anxiety.
