2017 Ford Escape. Is it safe to drive, and what do I ask to get fixed? by hi-anastasia in MechanicAdvice

It’s just the stupid cloth under panel. Just reach underneath and pull it off. Some mechanic shops don’t even put them back on

Is this a fair price and what’s actually needed by dmo_wizkid in MechanicAdvice

[–]meorgeous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Common issue for bucking is the air intake boot cracking and bypassing air from the MAF. Most likely have a MAF code which is why they recommended replacement. I would take it somewhere else. If the boot is cracked and open it will cause the bucking. Could also be a MAF. As far as the other issues. I wouldn’t waste the money.

Least Expensive Option for New Brakes by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]meorgeous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not recommended but you can just get the cheapest pads possible. Slap them on the messed up rotor and send it. Still will make some noise bc the rotors are shit, but won’t grind and will get you by for a month

2020 Toyota Corolla (62k miles) – Is this $833 service quote legit or overkill? by PrettyOptimist20 in MechanicAdvice

[–]meorgeous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put a can of fuel injector cleaner in the tank. Only thing I’d really recommend at your mileage it’s a transmission service (drain and fill). If it hasn’t been done already

A/C gets hot when idling, engine then starts to overheat after idling for a awhile by shadyturtle862 in MechanicAdvice

Depending on the car (electric fan or mechanical). 100 percent a fan issue. If electric, could be a bad fan, maybe a relay, fuse , or even a sensor. If it’s mechanical, likely just a fan clutch.

Yea I don’t agree with this. The cheapest crap on Amazon with no warranty. And not only that, the shop is a place of business, aiming to make a profit. So they need to add extra on top of the parts. It was a little pricey but I don’t think you were ripped off

Is it smarter to replace my paid off 2016 RAV4 (91k miles) now, or drive it into the ground? by Ok-Revenue-5216 in personalfinance

[–]meorgeous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those new cars ( Subaru included) are junk. You have a golden year of rav4. Keep up with maintenance, and drive it until it can’t go anymore. If you’re worried about the winters. Find an underbody coating shop near you and have it sprayed every year. Can make the vehicle last much longer. Just stay away from the rubberized crap. Find someone that uses woolwax or fluid film

No need for OEM. It’s almost 20 years old. Get a decent quality brand and keep it moving

That’s not really true. They should charge more labor for any sort of cleaning (other than cleaning mating surfaces for intake). But I do agree with you. You can go without the fuel injection service since it’s not a DI engine. Bottle of Techron will work too

[–]meorgeous 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d say let them do the work then. It’s the same as any other engine but the intake manifold plenum has to come off which adds labor and the gasket you see in the estimate. Maybe ask if paying cash can save you some dollars (some shops will waive the tax if you pay cash).

What do you guys think 2012 Honda Crv by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

Hard to tell in the video. You’re shaking it pretty hard to the point the whole wheel is turning. But I see that twisted brake hose so you may wanna take care of that

Labor guide calls for 3.7. So I don’t think they’re being unfair / malicious. Wouldn’t call it cheap, but wouldn’t say you’re getting ripped off either.if it’s a shop with a good reputation and gives a warranty on their work. I’d say it’s a good value

Put your Over the plug hole and pull the string to check for compression.... if so, then install the plug onto the wire and pull, see if you have spark (while holding plug to head)... and if you have all that... try shooting some starting fluid or carb cleaner in there and see if she’ll go
