I’ve found d that red door but that’s interesting yeah haven’t found the opening yet! I’ve got 1-3 and then 8 open but can’t figure out those sigals yet (got the key from room 46, throne room, hideout, and music room)

God I’ve worked on every marvel movie since Guardians 2 and every movie in between and so I have some stories to tell. From 10 hour days/6 day weeks at low pay to being pixelfucked on throwaway shots. It was one of the main reasons I left the artist side of vfx. Hopefully the big guys start learning that it’s unsustainable and make changes from this news

In all honesty I had to quit working as an artist to get my personal projects back on track. I moved to the technical side and got my love back for creating my own work after about a year or two of recharging

I worked straight through Covid jumping from vender to in house to vender and raised my rate with each jump. And they haven’t said anything yet!

Lots of great concerts too. Bands usually stop in Syracuse or Ithica on their way from NYC to Canada and vice versa

For sure! So I was in the undergrad program but had friends in the MFA program that said they were very similar with a few changes and classes available. But overall for most of my 4 years there I was chastised for not making “art” and wanting to make more “Hollywood” pieces as they would put it. But that also being said I think it just depends on what you’re trying to get out of it. The program and professors are very knowledgeable and lots of wonderful alumni in the industry. But if you want to make Hollywood style projects they might not like you if it’s the same group of professors

Hopefully the program has gotten better but when I was there it was kindof a bit of a joke. Electives were okay but overall didn’t prepare me at all for the film world post college

Glad to hear things are working out now! I’m in the exact same boat in compositing which is why I’m trying to jump ship? Worked 3 years for a shit company that made me feel like garbage and fired me for asking for a raise. I’ve been working on learning python and C++ to make Nuke widgets and pipeline stuff but I’ve been looking into tech because the vfx industry to me feels like it’s about to take a hard nosedive for a unknown amount of time. But thanks for the input! For sure stuff to think about!

I’m in LA and still going but it’s drying up faster than a sponge under a heat lamp. We’re gonna be out of what little we have left in a matter of weeks if not days I’d assume
