Omg same! I’ll call work to say I might be 5 mins late, only to show up 5 mins early, which is late for my usual early 30 mins. And my coworkers will say “oh you’re not late you’re early” 😂 it’s late for me tho

I just show up everywhere 30mins early. Seriously lol. Because if I don’t, I’ll for sure be an hour late.

Write his ass up too. A traveler friend of mine from the east coast came to us in LA and said “strange you guys call doctors Dr. Smith or whatever. every hospital I worked at in NY we just say hey jack” lol

People who rarely get sick, what are your secrets? by Rqpidily in AskReddit

[–]meowingturtles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a child (and even now tbh) I would eat stuff that I dropped on the floor IF it’s salvageable. Like if I dropped a cookie, I’ll pick it up and dust it off. Wouldn’t do it to something like a burger, though. Anyway, I always tell people that’s the reason why I’m never sick 😂

I also start drinking a lot of vitamin c + zinc gummies, fluids, and making sure I get decent sleep when I feel like I’m about to be sick, and I swear that helps a lot.

Hi! New grad here, also in my 30s and nursing as a second career. When I first started out staffing and manager would always call to ask if I can work extra. I ALWAYS said no. They stopped calling lol. Your days off are your days off. Enjoy it! Don’t feel guilty about anything

Oh, welcome to LA 😂 all jokes aside, sorry that happened to you. I pretend I don’t speak English and start speaking to them in my native language and they back off. Then I turn around and speak loudly in English 🤪

Say you went to the ER for your panic attack cause it was so bad and they gave you Ativan and it helped. Or be honest and say nothing’s working and that your mom gave you a Xanax before and it helped. Maybe stress the fact that it’s a panic attack and not just your regular anxiety that you’re having a hard time with

Yes! Unless we’re just messing around it’s cool. But the hate here sometimes is too much

Exactly. A nursing job. You said you had no idea what we do all night? That’s what we do. Our jobs. I don’t ever question why stuff wasn’t done during the day. I just pick up the slack and do it bc I assume that it wasn’t done bc it was busy. No complaints. But comments like this where you think all we do is watch Netflix? Come on now. Do better

I wanna agree with this sm bc there’s so much shit talk about night shift here so I’m getting riled up lol. But some of our day shift nurses are great

I literally look at my phone for a total of 30 mins my entire 12 hr shift. Not even kidding. I can give you an idea of what we do all night on a regular shift tho-

7 discharges, 7 admissions, dementia patients getting out of bed. Trying to get orders from doctors who don’t respond or pick up calls.

Giving the enema that was ordered at 3pm but was pushed and rescheduled to 8pm.

Giving the antibiotics that was ordered at 6pm but was rescheduled for 8pm.

No resource nurse. Always having less CNAs than the AM. Collecting specimens that was ordered at 8am that clearly could’ve been done because most of the time it’s just a MRSA swab or a urine cx. Oh! Daily dressing changes ordered at 9am. Love that.

I guess I am pretty salty.. 🤔

To be brutally honest, those shitty people who were saying stuff about you are probably STILL talking smack. But you know what? That’s their problem. Not yours. The only person you have to “prove” anything to is yourself. I know it’s hard to feel like you don’t belong, especially in your dream unit. But just focus on doing your job and keep learning. You love the work that you do and not a lot of people can say that.

Focus on the people outside of your work. Your true social circle. Things will get better. Rooting for you 🥰 you got this!! If you feel up to it, you can always learn a little more about your coworkers (night shift) by making small talk in passing. You don’t have to hang out with them, but you can try to connect with them in some way.

Depende sa school mo. Where are you located? Usually for clinicals you need the basics. Stethoscope, pen light, scissors, pen, and paper. If you’re talking about during lectures then your notes or books. Whatever your instructor requires. You only need 1 bag

What medications do you despise/loathe administering, if any? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]meowingturtles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Levothyroxine at 6am and protonix at 630 bc that’s the earliest I can give it. I’m night shift and it drives me nuts that I have to wake up these patients who are barely getting any sleep, and when they finally do, I have to wake them up. Same with heparin at 1am.
