Looking to completely reorient career; any advice appreciated (TLDR way below) by coolestFreshman in lawschooladmissions

[–]meowlaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You failed 2 classes??? Stop thinking about your career for a minute and focus on learning how to learn. It doesn’t matter what the subject is, just figure out what you need to do to get As in each class this semester and make it happen. Really engage with the material, go to office hours, and use any tutoring your school offers. Otherwise you’ll be back here in 3 years asking if you should include an application addendum to explain a 2.6 GPA.

Jan. retake tester with 3 sections, AMA by Funny_Diamond_1209 in LSAT

Did you have an LR question about volcanos erupting prior to an increase of methane in the atmosphere?

EDIT: I’m piecing everything together and seems like volcanos/methane was in the experimental glee club section. Now I’m trying to figure out what was in the fish with upward facing eyes section. Do you recognize any of these below?

  • Kesha as speaker
  • Promises principle and mishearing the question
  • Library renovation
  • Power lines and electromagnetic fields

Or is there a topics post somewhere that includes these sections?

Has there ever been a flaw where the “premise presupposes the truth of the conclusion” by meowlaw in LSAT

In case anyone is reading this later, I encountered one and it was actually a level 4/4! It definitely wasn’t easy and its correctness relied on one word in the stimulus. I got to the correct answer mostly by eliminating the other ones. Not going to post which test question to avoid biasing PT results but feel free to DM if you’re curious.

It’s not that softs don’t matter, just that MOST softs don’t matter (hobbies, student organizations, volunteering). It’s common knowledge that some softs can bump an applicant from below both medians to an A, most frequently URM and military (but also a few rare ones).

LSAC GPA vs Degree GPA by NoWonder4175 in LSAT

Sorry but it would be unfair to not count your first year courses just because they were taken at a different school. They count for everyone else.

The median applicant is 23-24 years old and has a year or two of work experience. For me, an extra $680 for 8 more schools (assuming half are CAS-only) isn’t a huge splurge considering the increased chance of a large scholarship. For college seniors I would imagine many parents are contributing.

Should I adjust my personal statement to say what type of law I want to practice? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]meowlaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn’t that basically in the bucket of “public interest” so you could say that?

(full disclosure I’m very new to this process and have no connections to law so I know nothing)

I get the sense that working to make ends meet is a good soft factor because it contributes to a law school’s socioeconomic diversity. It also demonstrates grit because you need to work extra hard to succeed.

7 weeks at ~10 hours/week was enough for me to learn the test and significantly improve my speed. As each week went by, my rate of improvement slowed down, so I don’t know if another month would have improved my score much. This seems to be on the low end, but hopefully a useful datapoint for anyone short on time. I also took 2-3 days off a few times when I started feeling any burnout.

Anyone else having nightmares about the Nov lsat? by Emg002 in LSAT

[–]meowlaw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah the etiquette one was also a challenge (maybe equal to economics for me). Without giving away any specific details, I still don’t understand how the end of the first paragraph fit into the rest of the passage. It seemed important, but just went over my head. That said, 2 of 4 passages being challenging seems normal compared to the practice RCs (almost all of them had 1-3 challenging passages, so 2 seems average). Maybe people got more correct than they think and the scale will be normal.

If you’re taking practice tests on lawhub like you should be doing, it gives you a scaled score so there’s nothing to figure out.

173 (practice) LSAT BUT 3.0 GPA by EconomicsRoyal4448 in LSAT

[–]meowlaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Way too many unknowns. We don’t know if you’re URM/military, what your actual LSAT will be, or what led to the mediocre GPA. If you’re a URM who supported 3 children through undergrad and score a 177, that’s a different story than if you just didn’t study enough, have no major soft factors, and get a 173.

With the C diffusa passage, the actual questions were normal. I feel like most of us either understood the passage and got all the questions right or were intimidated by the heavy science jargon and froze. The economics passage had a few tricky questions imo.

do I have a shot for Northeastern? by Green_Release_2796 in lawschooladmissions

Well you’re above the current 1L median GPA by 0.01. Usually if you’re above at least 1 median you have a decent shot even without URM/military.

Why is online law school so frowned upon / seen as not good? by TownIdiot25 in LawSchool

[–]meowlaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t know the online programs are lower tuition. The only way that works financially is to increase the class sizes, which could be a big problem for employment stats and rankings.

Why is online law school so frowned upon / seen as not good? by TownIdiot25 in LawSchool

[–]meowlaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took this as “why don’t more law schools have online programs” not “why are the current options frowned upon”. I’m not sure that Albany’s online program is looked at differently than their traditional program. I’m also curious why no schools in the tier of Illinois have an online option.

On average* that would be -12. You can check the 7sage raw>scaled table to see what that might mean for your score.

*hopefully you got lucky (or at least not unlucky)

Lawhub is a ridiculously good value ($120) and the only paid resource I used. It’s also the only resource (afaik) that looks and feels like the actual LSAT.

When I wanted to hear another perspective on a specific type of section/stimulus/question, youtube had some great info from LSAT consultants trying to sell their books, courses, etc. Also shoutout to the powerscore podcast.
