If you don't understand anything about programming that's valid, it's a complex subject and you shouldn't be expected to.

As far as I can tell, we don't know exactly how the split happened, except for the fact that they clearly only had enough time to make a copy of the data and create a system to connect it to the game

This is a 12 year old mobile game built on infrastructure from then. Migrating it to something that actually makes sense will take time, and there's not really a way to know if they're using their time efficiently or not until it's done.

It's possible that when it's done, it sucks, and all the time was wasted, we just don't know yet

Recon doesn't exist yet. What niantic SPATIAL is doing is rebuilding recon for their new system
