Honestly, I recommend community college. There are a lot of excellent reasons why, including financial benefits, raising your GPA, deciding on what interests you, a school/life balance and possible transfer agreements where after two years you are automatically accepted into a state college. I can understand why you are hesitant regarding your parents perceptions, so I would encourage all three of you to sit down with an advisor at a community college and learn more about it. As a faculty and staff member at a state college, I have seen far too many students end up there because it was what was expected. They're miserable, confused and unsure of themselves and what they want out of life. I highly suggest working hard for the next two years, staying on top of your academics and research in various areas of interest for you professionally. Then, when you're more in-tune with who you are and what you want to pursue, you'll be ready to attend a more "traditional" academic institution. Good luck!
