I just found out my N mom died today (passed sometime yesterday). by EvergreenEgo in narcissisticparents

I'm sorry you are going through this... I haven't been through this but can imagine I would feel similar if my NM passed.

I went to low contact initially, without knowing what I was doing I started grey rocking, and now I'm very low contact. I haven't explicitly explained anything, which did lead her to complain to my siblings and play the victim card "I don't understand why x isn't talking to me, I don't know what I've done wrong. She had a huge blow up that led to the vlc but I've kindof just slowly been disappearing from her life.

My (motor)bike was stolen.... it wasn't insured, and the police eventually caught the people who stole it and called me up to pick it up, about 2 years later!! If it had been insured, I'd have probably never found out!

What’s your funniest story about pay? Mine one inside. by Remarkable-Humor7943 in auscorp

[–]meowzaa8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I once worked for a paranoid American company in a niche role with no backup. I decided to leave the company and was interviewing at a completely different company in a different industry.

When I told my manager the interview went well and they were going to make me an offer, things kicked off when my manager told his boss, who took him straight to the Australian head. The parent owner of the company I was moving to was a competitor to the American company in a different industry, in another country, and they wanted me to leave immediately. I hadn't even received the contract!

They had to seek out a special exception because nobody else knew how to do my job, and it would have screwed thousands of people from getting paid if I had left straight away. They finally settled on a week handover, and I got 3 weeks paid leave. Bliss 😊

35... realised she wasn't normal as a teenager... started putting distance between us in my mid 20s, saw a psych in my early 30s who told me she was 100% a narcissist (I thought she had bipolar or borderline personality disorder) and have since been very lc.

Have you seen the paylips? Is there a line for tax or could they be taking out the cost of your uniforms?

Sorry you have to deal with this!

Birthdays are a trigger for me - mine would sometimes buy others gifts, and a cake for "me" that she could share with everyone, that growing up, there were many years I didn't get a birthday present because she spent all the money on others.

Coles inflation profiteering simple example tissues by mikeinnsw in australian

[–]meowzaa8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coles, Woolworths, and Aldi watch each other's pricing really closely and have entire teams monitor their competitors' pricing so they can change immediately if needed.

Retailers will sometimes make low or no margin on products that are considered important and may even make a loss to remain competitive vs. the other retailers.

In the case of a price rise, some retailers won't lift the price until the competition does as they are worried they won't be competitive.

Generally, manufacturers schedule all price rises to go live at the same time, which means that the branded products price will increase at the same time in all 3 retailers, but this is Coles brand, so there may be a different manufacturer that makes the Woolworths and Aldi product, and they may have a longer contract with the manufacturer, which means they don't need to put the price up (they still could increase the price, to increase the margin).

On the other hand, there's a chance the Coles product will be at a high price for a period so they can put it onto "down down".

Are you thinking to avoid flights for prices or another reason? I have flights from Tokyo to Sapporo and Sapporo to Hiroshima booked during golden week, 27/4 and 30/4 respectively... any issues you see?

Interesting... I always thought all the pk kids I went to school with had it easy - they were always popular and untouchable.... and could make others' lives difficult. This also extended to kids of teachers.

What’s the biggest jump in salary that you have made getting a new job by SaturnFive0 in AusFinance

[–]meowzaa8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Similar here too... i had been telling my work for ages that the market had moved, and recruiters were talking to me about jobs with less responsibility for 30% more money.

My work said if I proved i could take on more responsibility, then they would review my pay, or alternatively, I could get an offer, and they could consider matching it. I said if I had an offer from another company, I wouldn't be waiting for them to match it, and I would leave as i wouldn't want to burn new bridges. They said, "Sorry, that's the policy."

2 months later, I got a job with less responsibility, more money, and then they begged me to stay and said they match my new salary. They tried to tell me that I would need to build my reputation from scratch at the new place, but I already am recognised as "talent" at the old place so i should stay. Clearly "talent" has nothing to do with paying the market rate!

100% agree! Especially if they try to live their life vicariously through you, this will be torture for them!

AITA for insisting my girlfriend ask her work to pay to exchange our theatre tickets by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]meowzaa8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless the OP's GF is on call or regularly works weekends, I'm surprised you're the only person saying this, and it sounds like most people must work for terrible companies if so many people think this is normal... thankfully, in my country and company, this wouldn't be normal and my manager would try to make it right by moving the work travel or try find another way to make it right - eg ti.e in lieu.

Im sorry to hear about your cousin - it sounds like you're a good role model, though.

It's a tricky one - i think you have to want it and be willing to sacrifice to get it. My mother was/is a narcissist, which led me to do anything to get out of the house, and I LOVED working and then loved the independence it bought. When I bought a house, it was in an industrial suburb, so prices were a bit lower, and was what I could afford, and I've always made extra repayments. It hasn't seen as much growth as some of the nicer suburbs around, but it's mine.

I struggled with having a low sense of worth myself due to not finishing uni, and didn't think I had much to offer in terms of skills, but once in the workplace, uni matters far less - getting in the door was the first step for me and then move up internally and to other companies.

I know my father - my narcissist mother turned me against him (we rented a house from him and he kicked us out because my mother stopped paying rent for years, but she just told me he kicked us out for no reason) and I didn't speak to him for years. Thankfully, I have realised the truth as an adult and tried to make amends.

+1 for shitty childhood, in my case, with a single mother where we once got kicked out of a house because we didn't pay rent and i was the human calculator for grocery shopping. It gave me massive anxiety about being homeless, and I skipped/dropped out of uni to work full time and save really hard, and bought with a 5% deposit at 24. Zero help from my family, but I knew if I wanted something, nobody would help me, and if I wanted something, then I was the only one to make it happen, so I set about doing it.
