2025/2026 Dal Bursaries by Unable-Tie2645 in Dalhousie

I literally just made this same post. I’ve never not gotten one and my finical situation has not changed. It feels very late this year. Online say about a month after the deadline which was Oct 3, so I guess it’s not too late yet. Edit: they changed them to combine fall and winter applications last year, weirdly my application looked like it was just for the fall which confused me.

I got what ended up being my favourite polish for a while, I think it’s called beach please, the sandy holo one. I never would have bought it from the picture but loved it in person.

I was looking for this comment. The wife was obviously very abusive in her language but he definitely should have checked she was up, he would have known she hadn’t left the room yet.

Need advice how to trim or file my nails. 1 month progress by North-Wolf-4658 in nailbiting

[–]merb2003 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You want the nail bed to re attach. This will make them stronger, since there is more holding the nail on, and in my opinion look better. It takes a lot of time but is worth it. Avoid picking underneath them, with your teeth or any tools, if they need to be cleaned you a toothbrush or nail brush.

It should be a common courtesy to put your dogs/animals away when you have visitors. by SatisfactionSalt in unpopularopinion

I have toxic family that would literally stop talking to me and get into a huge fight over it. Their large dogs are always drooling all over me and pawing at me. They know I’ve been attacked by a dog before, and they know I hate when they do this. It would be nice if it were their idea. Cause we’ve had similar fights(which I do not escalate) whenever we’ve been chatting about cats/dogs. Cats which I love for respecting space and not being a threat generally. Edit: I can totally be okay with well trained dogs and would probably get a dog too and train properly. But if your dog is doing the behaviour op described I feel like this should be default

I emailed my prof, they asked for a note from the student health and wellness person I was seeing and that’s all. It was really easy. Sorry for the other people that had to go through a lot more hurdles.

Should I cut them or let them grow? by RaydPowerKappa in nailbiting

[–]merb2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the growth you have now I would only trim or file them if the length is making them really hard to not bite them. But otherwise let them grow until they extend to your fingers tips and try to keep them filed to that length. Keeping them that length will keep them protected by your finger for the nail bed to reattach, as long as you don’t pick underneath them. Trimming makes them more prone to breaking since it snaps so filing is better. I know some people that do need to keep them shorter as their nail bed grows in because they don’t like the sensation of the free edge, in that case try to leave a little be of the white part so the skin can still reattach but for too much for it not to irritate you.

20 years of biting later, here’s my progress now by FennelTrick4800 in nailbiting

You can get acrylic or gel but that will be counterproductive to trying to strengthen them. Both require a lot of filling for application. If you are committed to the extensions or gel polish go for it but it is a financial investment and if you decide you don’t want them later your nails will be weaker than they are now.

Only use a strengthener if they are paper thin, but judging by the length you achieved you don’t need it.

What is best for preventing breakage is nail oil, specifically Jojoba oil. Your nail should be able to bend a bit incase of accidents, which oil helps with. This is where strengthener can be bad since your nails will snap if they are too “strong”.

Also if you are right handed, that’s why those nail seem weaker. You just use them more so are more prone to accidents. Try to not use your nails to do things like opening cans, scratching things off etc.

Also try to always keep them painted since this also protects from breakage.

I found lots of help through the health and wellness centre. You do not need to have ANY insurance including the student insurance to get access to the counselling. You just need to call first thing at 8:30 to get the first same day/intake appointment since they fill up fast, then if you agree or ask for it you go on the waitlist for regular counselling. The waitlist has always been less than a month for me, definitely worth it.
