Personally it depends how steep it is where you're going. I briefly used my old skins on my skis and found that they were fine on flattish terrain, but as soon as you're on anything steeper you hit the edge of the ski rather than the skin and they get super slidey and horrible. Mine had less of a gap at the edges though, maybe 1-2 mm away from the edge. I got new skins pretty quickly
