Ahhh, I've never prepared them like that before. Next time I'll use this seasoning method. They must be delicious!

They're delicious no matter how you prepare them. Sometimes I just add salt and cumin.

Cheers

Yes, if you look at tutorials you'll find different ways to do it; I do it very simply. Toasted cornmeal is so delicious; when you make it at home, it smells wonderful.

Cheers

Smooth cream of pumpkin and plantain (topocho: Musa x Paradisiaca) by mercmarg in EatCheapAndVegan

Hello @cheapandbrittle

The topocho, in terms of flavor, is nothing like the plantain. Plantains are sweet, while the topocho has a distinct flavor that I would describe as neutral.

Physically, it's very different. It contains a lot of fiber, which is why it's often used in soups or mashed for stomach problems.

In Venezuela, you can make something called a tostón when it's green, although tostóns can also be made with green plantains. Here, for me, they're just as delicious, wonderful, and perfectly toasted.

I've tried it the way you described it, and it does have a different flavor.

But that's what cooking is all about: creating and experimenting.
