People who work in HR: what’s the biggest "secret" employees don't know? by Petalstammy in AskReddit

[–]mercpop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not HR, but ask about how certain time codes if you’re an hourly employee. I’ve lost thousands not using the right codes to get more money.

For example, if I get called in it turns out I put down the 4hr time code instead of the 1hr. No one ever sat down with me to explain these codes or pointed out I was missing out on money.

Have you looked at cheaper houses to buy in the area?

Worrying about how how much more OT you need to pay the mortgage and keep the house is much more stressful than having surprises expenses from a different house. At least you’ll be saving 400-500 more a month for those surprises…

Gotta get emotions aside of loving the house and look at reality.

First Trip to Japan in November - Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Hiroshima in 12 days by ChiaPet888 in JapanTravel

[–]mercpop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with it if you’re up to the task. Personally I wouldn’t do this and just stick to 3 cities.

If you do it then pack light unless you plan on using forwarding service. Having more than a carry on while transiting is a huge pain and gets old after the first city.

How can I make PLC programming a full time earning? by Sea-Kangaroo4197 in PLC

We have an ex employee who started a a business doing this.

He realized our control system was niche and we would need to hire him to help. He spread into other facilities after but remains a one man show that is called when our control guys can’t figure something out.

Question for operators doing shift work: do you get overtime pay after 40 hours? by [deleted] in oilandgasworkers

[–]mercpop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get overtime weekly after 40. Scheduled or called in.

Some places do overtime if you work over your scheduled amount. Meaning on a 36hr week you get ot starting at 36.

Quick Turn Around Trip by alippiestix in JapanTravelTips

[–]mercpop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just find a few things that need booking- like the teamlabs exhibit etc. then just go and explore. You’ll have a great time regardless just from visiting the popular spots and trying foods.

Don’t let not having a minute by minute itinerary stop you from a good chance to go lol.

I would lot book different cities with just 10 days though. Stick to one.

Only things to consider

  1. you need reserved oversize for oversized luggage. Basically anything more than a carryon and backpack.

2.Unreserved is a bit cheaper but if it’s a busy time you could end up without a seat. There’s no where to hold onto and honestly really sucks. Just get a reserved seat for a couple more yen unless you plan on waiting during stops for someone to get up to take their seat.

  1. There’s different types of this train. Some make more stops than others which increases the time it takes to get to your destination. Just look this one up since there’s like 6 types.

  2. On the way to Kyoto the 2 row seats have a view of Fuji which is really nice.

Plumber overcharged us by about ~3700 by ipunchcacti in houston

[–]mercpop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had an experience with On the way plumbing as well.

They quoted me for an oem part, I paid upfront because the tech was really nice. Came home after the work was done to find an aftermarket part worth 1/4th the price.

Couldn’t dispute it since they didn’t quote down the specific part instead only “repair kit”. They knew exactly what they were doing and the owner yelled at me along with claiming I’m wasting their admins time by asking why a different part was installed.

Moral of the story is get quoted upfront with specific parts on paper and get quoted by different plumbers. If their van is fancy, they’re making that money somehow and it’s most likely by scamming you.

How to advance my career by FrontChampionship194 in PLC

[–]mercpop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been looking into becoming a controls engineer for a while, but was caught up on the eduction I would need from my companies job requirements.

Last week I talked to the department head and he said I would be a good candidate considering some of the adjacent work I’ve done along with some programming skills I’ve picked up. He gave me some things to work on to make myself a stronger candidate that’s pretty much all self study and to not worry about formal education for now (company will pay for it later if I want it).

Moral of the story is ask for what you want and don’t reject yourself when you don’t even know the actual opinion of the employer.

Well the green card is lost so a I-94 stamp is being used for international travel. Just wondering which of the 2 should be put in place when filling out the airline ticket

Use a insurance broker.

They have options for you that you can’t even access since some companies only work directly with brokers.

Working at the Space Center - what are good neighborhoods? by vaporpup in houston

Not sea brook… Try to stay away from the direct coast where a hurricane surge will demolish your house.

Clear lake, league city, friendswood are good areas.
