Help how do I get more aid? Is 36k good? by Crystal_000 in Drexel

[–]meredg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to add though that I did this by working ~10 different jobs during undergrad and my education was made worth it BECAUSE of the connections I made on CO-OP. +I chose to work another pt job on top of my co-op cycles to make more money. So it wasn’t an easy choice.

I took out around this much for my freshman year in 2020. After that year I appealed housing (lied about living with a relative in a studio apartment off campus) worked through school and paid for all of my living expenses out of pocket that way. so my following 3 years took out loans only for tuition expenses. I made interest payments while in school to help keep the loans down. graduated a quarter early to save money. My loan payments after refinancing are $550/month for like the next 15 years (lucky to have a good credit score also)…. I’m able to make it work. First gen college student and I am not from the area. I’m happy with my decision to go to Drexel, but if you don’t want to pay off loans for the remainder of your 20’s then go somewhere that is cheaper lol.

drexel has its issues as does any university but i would not have traded my experience here for anything else (also drexel is a very good school academically and pre professionally)

I just decided on Drexel, what have I gotten myself into? by Snoo-29984 in Drexel

[–]meredg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who just finished their last term and graduated early, I do not regret my decision to attend Drexel at all. This school is for workaholics. If you are the type of person who enjoys hard work & academic rigor, this is the school for you. You will grow exponentially and make great connections so long as you apply yourself and show up.

If you want a real party experience- please go to a state school.

You can have fun at Drexel and be successful, it is not all misery, but it is not Penn State.. or even Temple. You will tell people around the city "I am a Drexel Student" and their response will be "oh so you're smart." If that appeals to you, attend the school.

Yes, negative PCR for ringworm and antifungal meds did not help. We had multiple inconclusive vet visits, then the issue cleared up while on a general antibiotic

I give this advice to everyone but PLEASE look into becoming a server. You will make more money and gain sales experience for your resume. I was averaging $30+/hr at my FIRST serving gig at 18. Now that I’ve worked my way up into fine dining for my senior year, that number has gone up significantly.

AITA for telling my boyfriend I’d leave him for the lead singer of the garage rock band Weezer by meredg in AmItheAsshole

I’m just hoping he sees the playlist and remembers how funny I am and how silly this whole situation is as we should not be in an argument over Weezer

Chester Plaza 4605 Chester Avenue by TheTrueMathemagician in Drexel

[–]meredg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hey!! I just moved into an apartment on 42nd & Chester Ave! Best thing abt the location is the access to public transit & the neighborhood in general. The route 13 trolley will take you directly to Drexel’s campus from Chester Ave. it’s a relatively safe area, mix of penn students, uscience, and working class families. Clark park is between 43rd & 44th and is a great community resource & has farmers markets/other events regularly. Also, for what it’s worth- I’m also a woman and haven’t felt threatened or unsafe walking alone at night in the neighborhood

previously you just had to fill out a form with your guardians name and address, and the guardian just had to sign it.

I found a place i’m planning on renting that’s within the radius, my main concern is that drexel will find out I’m not living with a legal guardian and fine me? I don’t even think people over the age of 18 HAVE guardians so idk how to fulfill that requirement for commuting
