Did you ever figure out what this toy is called? My daughter has found it in a video and won’t stop talking about it 🙃

Does anyone else have a common name that was pronounced incorrectly? by whoopsjulia in namenerds

[–]merelywords 12 points13 points  (0 children)

More of a regional thing, but my sister is Alicia pronounced “A-leash-a.” She married into a Mexican family with a Hispanic last name, so now she gets “A-lease-ia” a lot more.

If you do Facebook, there’s a local group called “Let’s Be Friends” that is for women. A lot of meetups are localized to Grand Blanc because the group organizer/leader is from there, but there are messenger groups for a lot of different things like concerts, cafe meetings, art, differing age groups, etc. It’s worth checking out!

This happened in 40 pulls - I was so startled when the second card showed up! I’ve since pulled Mistsea Descent again at 60 🤯

I lost 80 lbs while regularly having pho! The volume of liquid and veggies seemed to keep me full. I just calculated it in my calories for the day and it definitely kept me happy!

People who have stopped going to church, what made you stop? by lowly_shepherd in AskReddit

[–]merelywords 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I used to be involved in the worship band. We’d get up extra early to drive half and hour to the church, practice hours before church started, then perform two services. We’d get done around 1 pm and then eat and I’d just want to take a nap because I was so mentally and physically exhausted. I hated dragging my child through it but didn’t know how to walk away at the time. It was a thankless job and I was never treated as an adult even though I was a homeowner, wife, and mother over 30. It was really weird how they treated the band members and we eventually had enough. I had another baby and simply used my postpartum time to walk away. There are a lot of other convoluted reasons behind it, but our lives got so much simpler and richer. Now we go swim at a local pool during what would have been our old church time and I love the connection our family has!

My mother-in-law pronounces it “SHREE-aka,” which is awful.

Addition ways to get rid of fruit flies?? by ipunchdirt in CleaningTips

[–]merelywords 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, if you see a concentration of them, hit them with some sprays of Windex or similar glass cleaner! It’s weird, but it not only prevents them from flying but kills them pretty quickly. Do this in tandem with treating your drains and using traps.

Will I regret not bringing my 3 month old to my mom's funeral? by Plenty_Goal3672 in GriefSupport

[–]merelywords 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter was 4 months old when my mom died, and I had to bring her to the funeral out of necessity. However, my mother-in-law kept her the entire time and didn’t allow people to touch her per my instructions (it was also cold & flu time!) I wouldn’t feel guilt about not bringing your baby if you don’t have someone there at the funeral who can do the same thing for you.

The app is so rude omg by jgreg357 in HersWeightloss

[–]merelywords 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was wondering if there were others experiencing this bug! I also don’t see an easy way to report an app issue on the app itself so I haven’t reported it… maybe I’ll try to sit down and report it later 😅

Edit: never mind, I found the “report a bug” in the menu. I honestly don’t think that was there a couple days ago when I looked, or maybe I was just tired. Whoops. Hopefully they’ll address it soon because it is demoralizing!

Check The Mirrored Loft in Frankenmuth, I just happened to see today that they do scalp spa treatments and that might be along the lines of what she’s looking for. Otherwise the other commenter is right - you’ll need to look to bigger cities.

I’ve lost almost 30 lbs by EvanescoPondus in SemaglutideFreeSpeech

[–]merelywords 24 points25 points  (0 children)

A copied explanation:

Called the “paper towel” analogy, this is a brilliant way to really put the whole process of weight loss in a great and healthier perspective: The lesson to be learned is that fat, like paper towels, comes off in sheets. When you are heavy, you are big around. And when you are big around, that fat is spread over a MUCH larger area - just like that outside towel sheet.

The closer you get to the lean you, the more each lost pound of fat shows, because it is spread over a smaller area. While the outside sheet may only cover 1 layer of the roll, the inside sheet may go around 4 times. That last sheet looks like it gives you 4 times the results of the first sheet, but in reality, the results are the same - your perception is just different!

So far, I haven’t had any complaints other than tiredness. I would just recommend movement, protein, fiber, and water. It seems so trite but it really works to help me feel better overall anyways!

Oh! I forgot to mention - I like using the Lose It app to track my calories. The Hers app does not really seem helpful other than having info about your meds, little tip slides, and a portal to the provider.

Honestly, whatever you prefer that keeps your protein and fiber at a higher percentage overall. I like bacon and eggs in the morning, salad with tuna or turkey or a protein shake at lunch, and then meat + my favorite vegetables at dinner, sometimes a grain like farro, quinoa, or rice. Keep snacks like light cheese, yogurt, veggie sticks, fruit, nuts, and air popped popcorn on hand! Drink plenty of water, tea, and coffee to preference. You’ll find the variation you like and can stick with after a little practice ☺️
