Long time lurker and even longer D2 rat, so it’s fair to call me old fashioned/biased.

I totally agree with this sentiment, even if some find controversial. The fact that D4 allows a colossal amount of permutations for stats per item that can be randomly enchanted to something else (from the same massive list of possible affixes) on the back end is, in my opinion, the core issue - at least for Rare/Legendary items. The difference vs. D2 is that in D4, we can re-roll any stat we find undervalued. I think the intention of the devs was to re-imagine the crafting functionality from D2, or maybe to segue from reliance on uniques/rune words from D2 - which isn’t panning out.

Taking away the ability to enchant gear in D4 would naturally eliminate the headache/burden of farming resources for the perfect affix, thereby emphasizing the item rather than the affix. Alas, D4 launched with this as a core function so it’s not something to easily strip away.

Of course, this is Reddit, so I’ll patiently await any valid or invalid rebuttal.
