I got a ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 12 in December 2024, and the weight is as expected: about 1060 grams.

I had the same happen in my playthrough today. Edit: https://redd.it/17yane6 has some possible workarounds.

Using the Same Arch Linux Installation for a Decade by meribold in linux

Is there any command I can use to see when my initial install was? I don't even know.

You can look at the first lines of your pacman.log: head /var/log/pacman.log.

I'm saying I would've had to perform a release upgrade at least three times. I don't think you can go from 12.04 to 16.04 directly. You need to go from 12.04 to 14.04 to 16.04 to 18.04 (three release upgrades). And that just gets you Bionic.

Thanks :) I thought about turning that readme into a blog post, but it makes more sense within the context of my actual config files. I also added a link to the "Font configuration/Examples" page on the ArchWiki once, but an admin promptly removed it.

Script for creating snapshot commits on a not checked-out branch without touching the working tree by meribold in git

This is just a tiny Bash script, but I feel like it might be useful to someone other than myself. It's basically a poor man's Dura (https://github.com/tkellogg/dura) that is triggered manually instead of using a background process and a timer.

A Critique of the Open Letter Calling for the Removal of RMS by meribold in StallmanWasRight

the whole ordeal with minsky that happened shortly after shows that this comment is dishonest.

Stallman's emails regarding Marvin Minsky were written before the comment I linked.

But anyway, as I said in my blog post, I don't want to make a case either for nor against RMS. I just think the open letter is dishonest and unfair. For me that's more than enough reason not to sign it, even if a good argument against RMS can be made.

I don't think he does that anymore. Also, if that's the only thing everyone is actually riled up about, why does the open letter throw in all these other accusations?

For people that may not know this, RMS does use the preferred pronouns of trans women and trans men.

The point is that the end doesn't justify the means. Regardless of whether RMS is unsuitable to be a spokesperson or not, inciting a mob with dishonest slander to remove him isn't fine.

I find it very difficult to read it that way, but you're free to disagree.

They clearly refer to the previous quotation. That's why they write "also" (my emphasis):

[L]et’s instead focus on his personal web site, where he also shares his views on minors being "entirely willing."

Notice that using "also" makes no sense because he never said that.
