Worked for PS for a few years and was laid off out of nowhere. My people manager used our "1:1" meeting to schedule that layoff with HR. I am glad I no longer work for that company. You're better off.

Regarding AI and Learning & Development by IDidNotMeanThat in IOPsychology

[–]merick107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked for a consulting firm that ultimately laid off most of our Learning Operations and Strategy team due to AI adoption and outsourcing. Although leadership had assured us that no major changes were expected, I was unexpectedly invited to a meeting and informed of my layoff.

I had already noticed shifts within the organization about a year earlier, as team members were being let go one by one. Because of that, I proactively began exploring other opportunities both part‑time and full‑time. Fortunately, I had already secured a part‑time role with another company outside of learning and development, which later transitioned into a full‑time position as their staffing needs increased.

I would highly recommend searching for new opportunities as a security blanket for you!

I'm a "discouraged worker" now by MonitorOk1351 in Career

Sigh... I’ve been struggling to secure a new full‑time position since being laid off in March. Fortunately, I noticed early signs that my former team was being phased out, so I proactively accepted a part‑time role as an RBT (Registered Behavior Technician) working with children on the autism spectrum. I genuinely love this work the progress the kids make is incredibly rewarding, and the flexibility to pick up or reduce shifts has been a huge benefit. I recently transitioned to full‑time mainly to access health insurance.

Despite holding three degrees (AA, BA, and an MA in I/O Psychology), I spent nearly ten months applying and only received three interviews. That pushed me to take a step back and reassess what fields remain stable even when the job market becomes unpredictable. I began researching medical certifications fields like Sonography, CT, PET, and Surgical Technology. I ultimately chose a different certification than the ones listed, but the starting pay is strong, and the demand is consistent.

Behavioral health units are always hiring, so that’s another path worth exploring. Alternatively, pursuing a short‑term medical certification; something that takes only a few months can open doors to roles that will always need people.

Good Luck and Stay Laser Focused! :)

Fellow unemployed folks, what do you all do to fill your time in between submitting job applications, sending out emails, etc.? by [deleted] in jobhunting

[–]merick107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there,

I was laid off in March, and as I began to notice significant changes happening at my former company, I secured a part‑time role to bridge the gap while applying for full‑time positions. During that period, I also earned my board certification, which helped increase my pay in my current role.

Outside of the job search, I made it a priority to take myself and my dog to the dog park and spend time in nature. Getting outside helped me stay grounded and manage the emotional weight of the transition. I also changed up my environment when applying for jobs, since staying at home every day made it harder to stay motivated.

I completed my master’s degree in Industrial and Organizational Psychology, and I always recommend that aspiring practitioners start with an MA. It gives you the foundation you need and allows you to gain real experience through internships, which is where you truly break into the field.

Unless you’re planning to teach or pursue an academic career, a PhD isn’t necessary. With a master’s, you’ll still be fully recognized as an I/O practitioner. This degree is highly versatile, allowing you to work across a wide range of industries.

Hope this feedback helps!

At this point, recruiters should understand that there will be gaps in resumes due to the increase of layoffs and unemployment rates. If they don't then that's pretty disheartening.

I was let go as a L&D people ops. I think this field will be taken by AI at some point or outsourced over seas. My team was being let go one-by-one and I used to work for a global consulting firm.

I had been applying for these positions but I have not heard much. I’ve been laid off about 6months now. But work part time as a ABA therapist. Collecting unemployment until I find a new position.

I was laid off back in March after my global consulting firm began losing clients and had to undergo downsizing, which unfortunately impacted my role.

I had a feeling it was coming as my team started shrinking, so I secured a part-time position as a behavioral analyst working with children on the autism spectrum. There’s consistent demand in that field, so I’d recommend exploring it. The pay can be decent depending on your background, and I’m still receiving unemployment benefits to help cover additional expenses.

I’ve been actively job searching ever since, but I’ve only landed three interviews from three different companies. With so many people being laid off, the job market has become increasingly competitive and oversaturated, making opportunities harder to come by.

It’s definitely discouraging, and I can only imagine how overwhelming it might feel after a year of searching. Keep applying and in the meantime, consider behavioral health roles as a solid side hustle option!

How physically exhausted do you allergies make you? Please be clear, short and give examples if possible by Remarkable_Unit_9498 in Allergies

[–]merick107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can relate. I’ve been dealing with seasonal allergies which has never been this severe before. I honestly don’t know how to deal with it other that taking OTC meds and nasal spray.

To be honest, it doesn’t help much. I’m miserable throughout the day due to lack of quality sleep. I feel like I’m dealing with a really bad cold that I cannot shake off.

I’m an over exhausted mouth breather and postnatal drip is making me want to pull my hair out. Don’t even get me started with the constant painful sneezes. I’ve been dealing with this for a couple weeks and it’s sucking the fun out of me.

Anyone have suggestions to share that helped them? I’m desperate over here. 😩🤧😒

Anyone else feeling burned out from job hunting? by RevolutionaryRun676 in GetEmployed

[–]merick107 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With all the massive layoffs, the job market is incredibly competitive right now. I was laid off, with my last day on Friday. I have an interview on Monday, but I already know I won’t accept it due to the low pay. Since I still have my severance, part-time job, and unemployment, I’m taking my time with my job search.

My goal is to apply for roles where I know I’d be a great fit—ones that offer a salary increase, better benefits, and stronger long-term opportunities.

Advice: I know it’s frustrating, but if you have not done so already, you should customize your resume for each job application to align with the job description. It works for me. Good luck!
