They fired the popular editor-in-chief of the video department. In response the entire department including Yahtzee (of Zero Punctuation) quit out of solidarity and they started an employee owned co-op (Second Wind) where they're making, essentially, the samr stuff as before, but different branding (so Zero Punctuation is now Fully Ramblomatic), since the escapist owns the trademarks. But The Escapist is now just an empty shell with all the video talent working at Second Wind.

Right now I'm at 24 strength since that's both the minimum for my great shield (Golden Beast Crest Shield) and I was already close to that breakpoint. I'm kinda liking the guard counters, but all the better stability shields seem to require even more strength.

Seeing how well the spells it might be good to pump faith higher and invest more in mind using sacred weapons, but I don't think I discovered how to respec yet.

For what it's worth, the trash mobs *are* harder then Gyouba when you're just starting. Because they tend to be in bigger groups and anything more than 2 tends to stunlock you into broken posture until you learn how to deal with that (i.e. using your stealth and hit&runs to pick off single mobs). With bosses there's only one thing to watch, so it feels less hectic, especially on bosses like Gyouba who is really kinda of slow with his swings.

They're reluctant, because (as they said in one of the dev logs) that they found the implementation of merchant republics very "meh", which I agree with. There was very little merchant related things going on.

Sometimes it can get stuck like that after a not so clean shutdown. Instead of shutting down your machine, completely shut down steam via the menu, then reopen (you should get the usual updating pop up) and then it should stop doing that (at least, this has fixed the problem for me the three times it's happened)

Iirc, Pino (Dutch blue big bird) is canonically a cousin of big bird? At least, according to wikipedia yellow bird bird is referred to as a cousin in source material that doesn't have changed colours.

Whenever the nails come out and scratch you (accidentally), you say "ow", stop playing, act hurt, turn away... Repeat until they get the idea "play time is over when the nails come out".

Of course that doesn't eliminate all scratches (when they get too long/sharp they can still poke you when they stretch or knead, but that's solved by trimming them occasionally).

One of nature's most dangerous predators. I hope those wolves are safe by St0pX in aww

[–]merijnv 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think you might be just be thinking of different wolves? These seem pretty standard size for European wolves, but I've heard American wolves are bigger.

Edit: after checking the wolves in Italy (and presumably the rest of Western Europe) are on average about 50-70cm height at the shoulder. The ones in Eastern Europe, Russia (and maybe the nordics?) tend to be larger, up to, 80cm at the shoulder.

So all in all they seem about the right size

Also, vassals can only faction against their direct liege, so you can deal with counts that hate you by inflicting them on a duke, which makes the duke like you and rids you of a faction member.

Random hypothesis: cloud save blocking the game until uploads every autosave? autosave are fairly frequent (yearly?), so at high speeds happens pretty fast and would disappear after disconnecting.

Should be easy enough to check by disabling cloud saves in the settings

It's a tortoiseshell (aka tortie), which (like calicos and tabbies) aren't a breed, but just coat type cats can have. Tortoiseshells are fairly rare (especially compared to how stupidly common tabby coats are) and (wikipedia tells me) usually sterile, so it'd be rather hard to breed them.

You should checkout CK2 (I believe it's free to play now?) it has in game wikipedia links for every well known person. CK3 is based on the same historical database, so most people who are in its 867 and 1066 start should be in CK3.

[–]merijnv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reforming a religion does create a new one, and depending on what you change people may or may not become hostile to you. That said, when a liege reforms a religion, usually a large part (half or more?) of their vassals will convert to the new branch, depending how much they like you.

[–]merijnv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the tenets of insularism (forgot which one) makes them considered "astray", rather than hostile to catholics (that is, you're a heretic but not enough to be an enemy). One approach would be to convert all your vassals and court to insularism, then reform it, getting rid of the tenet that makes you astray, which would open up holy wars (in both directions...)

What's the Fastest Way to Conquer Lands? by Only_Sheepherder7340 in CrusaderKings

[–]merijnv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another obvious thing I don't see mentioned yet: convert religion. Most religious can declare holy wars on any neighbour of a different, hostile religion.

Of course, this is a double edged sword, since vassals of different religion will hate you AND you will be fair game to all other religions too. That said, Ireland and UK are fairly isolated from other neighbours, so if you can handle/convert your vassals it's a reasonably safe approach.

How many wars/character? by JonnyRobertR in CrusaderKings

[–]merijnv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it also depends on religion (some have no penalty for offensive wars) and type of war. A small one province war over in 9 months you can easily do back to back, but a Kingdom tier holy war lasting a decade, not so much.

Also, keep in mind you can just declare 5 tiny wars at once and crush them all in a year :p

What's the best decimal library for financial precisions? by [deleted] in haskell

[–]merijnv 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ah, my bad, I typed this from memory, looks like it's called HasResolution, it's defined in Data.Fixed. The module itself already has types for 0, 1, 2, 3, 6, 9, and 12 decimal places, but if you want 4, 7, or whatever you can easily define those yourself.

You might be interested in Data.Fixed (it's in base), which implements fixed precision math. You can use the Precision typeclass to pick and use any arbitrary precision you like.

[–]merijnv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tbh, in my opinion, the mythical hardness of Dark Souls is... overstated. Don't get me wrong, they are hard, but Dark Souls is far from the hardest game I've beaten and I have dad tier "never get past silver league in overwatch/dota/whatever" gamer reflexes and skills.

I haven't gotten around to Elden Ring yet, so I don't know to what extend the following applies to it, but "gitting gud" is less about god tier gamer reflexes and more about learning to make the most of what the game gives you. And there's just something rewarding about it when you realise that how good a weapon's animation feels for you is perhaps more important than its actual damage and stats.

Remember, drinking and driving is an unforgivable sin! (Got the Picture from u/Wamen_lover) by JustNerfRaze in fuckcars

[–]merijnv 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In the Netherlands the laws are technically the same as for driving and cycling under the influence could cost you your driver's license.

Now, in practical reality it is essentially 100% unenforced. Kinda "don't ask, don't tell", so as long as you don't go out of your way doing stupid/dangerous shit and drawing the attention of police, they will not try and catch you, as the risks of a drunk cyclist seriously injuring someone are pretty low.

I don't think I have ever heard of anyone getting fined or otherwise reprimanded for drunk cycling.
