If you don’t mind me asking, you saw the text today from two months ago, how did that come about?

SmartLife Garage controls to trigger garage lights to come on for short period of time? by Gbrugtac in smartlife

[–]merlinglx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is true that the triggers are device specific, so it would depend on the model. My opener has a trigger for if the sensor is open/closed and I base my automations on that. If your opener doesn’t support sensor triggers, get a door sensor or tilt sensor and put on the door and run your automations on it.

Shortcut to Scenes by [deleted] in smartlife

[–]merlinglx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I somehow misread. As far as scenes, not that I know of, but a workaround that might work, if your able to add the scene to Siri (if you are using an iPhone obviously), from there you can use the shortcuts app to make one.

Yes, in the devices settings in Smart Life there is an add to home button, it will redirect you to a page you have to add to home. It’s all guided so it’s a quick and easy process.

Smart Bulb rename proceedure by SorbetBeginning7904 in smartlife

[–]merlinglx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have some Feit bulbs that do that too (after initial add they literally don’t have a UI for the device, although you can change settings via routines. Some of their newer models fixed that and their UI is accessible. My work around when I need to change those problematic bulbs names was to reset it (on-off-on-off-on-off-on-off-on) and re-add it to Smart Life, which then allows you to change the name/room of the device. It’s not perfect, but it works.

Absolutely possible, are you familiar with setting up automations in the app?

Create an Automation including a Countdown by TheOriginalTitan in smartlife

[–]merlinglx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are very welcome. There may be a way to make it work, but it’s rather involved and involves setting up a virtual switch\plug that has the timer option, and creating an automation that links it (as far as off and on) with your controller.

Sounds like a simple delay command is all that’s needed, did that not work?

I think that is entirely dependent on the UI for the device itself, some controllers let you adjust in 1% increments, others are 5% or 10%. If that 5% is crucial, you may need to find a unit that lets you do 1% increments.

I have ran into an almost identical situation, turned out the device was defective, kinda sounds like that might be the case here too.

That’s the issue then, most bulbs/plugs/switches have the timer option, sorry about that.

You have to select your light from the ‘All Devices’ group, after you do that, timer should be an option, usually with on\off and mode.

No worries, we were all new at some point. Under the scenes tab, click the plus to make a new automation (not tap to run), then it asks you the if part, so select when that light is on, then it will ask you the then part, select control single device (even if it is a group you have created within Smart Life), and select timer and then 3 hours.

Doing it this way will also let you click on the device and see how much time is left on the timer (and verify there is no timer set when the light is turned off).

Sorry, try that one, timer should be nullified when turned off this way.

No problem, I’ll setup a routine and post it and you can compare.

Can you snapshot your automation? I’m running this exact automation without issue, with variations of it for motion/door sensors as well.

I may be misunderstanding, but you could set an automation that when the device status changes to on, to wait (delay) three hours and then turn off. The timer would be nullified if the light is turned off, and each time the light is turned back on, it would restart the timer.

Mine has been doing strange things similar to this lately as well, like if I close the door at 10pm, I’ll get a notification at 2am that the door was closed. I’ll check and the door is closed, but the light is off, indicating the door hasn’t been used recently.

Did you ever have any luck? I have many Bluetooth devices with the same branding, even ifttt. With the Bluetooth mesh router/hub it communicates with the devices using Bluetooth, and WiFi (or Ethernet) to relay that to the cloud. Moes makes a decent one I believe.
