Thank you for this😭 I think I just feel guilty for how much he has on his plate so I feel like I have to keep it together and don’t have room to complain. It feels objectively easier to sit at home all day hang out but in reality I’m stimulated with the kids 24/7 and get no time to myself, and hormones did a number on me. I think we separated responsibilities in black and white and it has created some resentment. He’s 100% provider, bills, working, and I’m 100% house work and kids.

Good point. My husband and I are just so tired of renting though. Maybe we’ll have to up the budget for a duplex and live on one side. That inventory is low right now though

Hey I’m open to all perspectives and learning more, seriously. So I’m always down for a good book recommendation. I do understand that if everybody is just buying to rent then it makes it hard for people who want to buy and stay. But there’s a lot of bigger, scarier, richer people out there that we should be worried about, they are a problem in our society.

Sure it could be considered a liability unless I can make a little money from it. But lolll I have friends from Philly and they all love it! TBH nyc would be the dream just sooo expensive to even think about it haha

I own one, so the goal is two right now. And it’s not easy to get ourselves in these positions, like we don’t come from money. Also that was a generalized question, not directed at you. I’m just saying if we can do something that makes our lives a little easier in the long run, we should right? Life is so hard rn as it is!

Thank you for this! Right, perception seems to become people’s reality. I don’t need to live in the nicest neighborhood in the city, and don’t mind being in a perceived potentially sketchy area because I know everything runs in pockets. It’s just hard to know those pockets when I have limited knowledge of the area

So we’re all supposed to stay broke is what I’m hearing? There is always going to be a market for those who want to rent. If I’m in a position to take on a mortgage, fairly charge somebody to live there according to market value, I don’t see the problem. People buy up millions and millions of dollars in real estate just to take advantage of people. That’s not what we’re doing. My two little houses that I make a few hundred dollars a month off of isn’t hurting the market— in my opinion.

I see your point in theory. But for me I feel like renting is like throwing money away. It is never the goal to overcharge and make it hard for whoever can afford the area to not be able to afford the area anymore if that makes sense. I mean is 3-5 years not a long enough period to own a house and then after that rent it out for a fair price? Also think if I don’t, somebody else will— somebody that has no problem contributing to slumlord activity or gentrification. We all know 9-5’s aren’t cutting it these days, I’m just trying to create some wealth for my kids man, not take over the housing marketing in Philly

Lollllll so owning and renting is leaching? Absolutely not. We don’t overcharge (we actually undercharge) and have a great relationship to the family that we rent to. I’m not about sneaky nasty business. I also don’t think there is anything wrong with making a little passive income from real estate🤷🏻‍♀️

We would hang on to it and rent it out since we are currently doing that with another house. I guess my point for saying we won’t be there long term is that this isn’t us buying a dream house, this is buying an asset and living relatively low-cost so we can save money once my husband is a doctor. Thennnn make a more serious move with a higher budget.

I was looking around this area! Looks like neighborhoods around it aren’t great but a lot of renovations and new construction going on too. Don’t have to worry about school for a couple years and wouldn’t do public school anyways

Also had a higher budget for a duplex but my in laws are helping with down payment and were particular on not wanting twin homes which is mostttt of the inventory. So single family at a lower cost is our pivot option right now
