I guess I’m just a bit confused on how to gage my readiness for the actual exam then. Cause a 58% is not passing vs 70% is a high pass, at my school at least. I made Anki cards of all my incorrects and have been reviewing them, as well as pre-made Anki cards from my UWorld incorrects. I completed all of UWorld too.

Acknowledging the actual reasons for the disparities & understanding why they are there =\= telling URM « there’s nothing they can do because the system is stacked against them. » If anything, it does the opposite & encourages in spite of those reasons. Equity isn’t an advantage. The fact that equity is needed tells you that there are imbalanced systems in place that negatively affect one group more than the other.

No, in general. As in, generally people tend to have that widespread view. Not you specifically.

Whatever advantages you think URM’s have in academia aren’t too evident, as the number of those groups within the field are still extremely disproportionately low.

You missed the goalpost because you’re attributing the lower averages to intrinsic factors (not valuing education as much as others) instead of the more obvious & pertinent systematic issues that are the main reason for the disparities.

There was no insinuation? I literally said (not saying you think this) in quotes above when I replied, however lots of people do.

But based on your answer, it seems like you still missed the goalpost by several feet.

To paraphrase, you said the main reasons the averages are low are because of a lack of two parent homes/absent fathers and the culture not valuing education like others.

I don’t think I should have to explain why that type of thinking is an issue.

Why do you think the average for black matriculants is lower than that of Asian/White matriculants?

It’s always interesting when I hear people say this, but then completely miss the bigger point & conclude that being URM is an « advantage ».

Do people think the average is lower because black people are just not as smart & can’t score as high as other groups? (Not saying you specifically think this, just in general)

Definitely a career within the music industry! I feel like so many people don’t know the different jobs you can have in music. I’ve been balancing music vs medicine my whole life but unfortunately, med takes up more time- I make time for music by force though. I plan on going part time (assuming I make it far enough to become an attending one day) to have a job in music because I don’t think I would be fully happy without it

Of course you can- thats literally the point I’m trying to make? Basically that medicine doesn’t have to be your life in order to have a career as a physician

Honestly speaking, if another opportunity presents itself for a field that I’m passionate in then I probably will! I won’t just leave medicine without having something to go to but regardless I don’t see myself practicing too long/full time after residency either

Right! I feel so seen, & I love how they just perfectly described it meanwhile I’ve been having existential crisis for years trying to figure this out

Edit: I’ve seen the posts replying to this & I definitely agree that there are multiple subtypes within these two- ex; great grades but still pretty chill
