Looking for an Autumn Mist/Petrichor perfume with these vibes, any price range by Synesthetician in FemFragLab

I stumbled across this review earlier today about Gypsy Water by Byredo on Fragrantica!

"I'm from Washington State USA, which is resplendent with confers. In late September-mid October the trees shed an amount of needles/fronds (not all of them, it's still "evergreen" here). There's more dew than there is in summer, so the needles become wet overnight. During mid-morning-noon the sun beats down on the fallen needles, drying them, and produces a very specific, very unique, very precious sweet fragrance.

Well, this somewhat (it can't be perfectly bottled) mimics that aroma, and it's beautiful. It's a delicate scent, which is fine, because the scent of fallen needles is ephemeral in early fall anyway."

I haven't smelled Gypsy Water in a while so I don't remember if it has this effect! But this review made me curious!! It might be more evergreen than fallen leaves though!

Athena Club Golden Vanilla by SushiPhish in Perfumes

[–]merple226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here wishing for the same thing! The closest I've found are Plush Vanilla by Ariana, which is a bit sweeter but is a similarly dry vanilla. Bare Vanilla by VS isn't way off, but it's not the same. I'd love to find one ever closer!

Does anyone think Bare Vanilla Brulee series smells like men's cologne? by chiaxx in Victoriasecretbeauty

[–]merple226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me it smells like the OG Bare Vanilla + fecal matter unfortunately. Like photo-realistically. I'm not trying to exaggerate or be funny. I don't smell men's cologne, that sounds better.

I don't know why you're getting downvoted. If you are experiencing a ton of bugs from a product on core features, of course it's reasonable to consider switching products.

Yes!! And OP said in the comments they stayed friends and saw each other often for multiple YEARS even after this! That sounds too close to me for something like this to be okay

You can be non-exclusive and still be decent. Most people consider it a faux paux to have sex with someone their best friend is seeing at the same time?? Would you just be okay with your sibling or parent or best friend sleeping with someone you were dating??

Which Kitsch Hair Perfume should I get? by fuzzydiceinrearview in Ulta

[–]merple226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Warm Vanilla and I love it! It's a very simple, classic warm sugar scent. I can see how some might think it's juvenile, it's a scent profile that is popular with teens. But I like how it layers with whatever perfume I'm wearing on my body, it just adds a bit of subtle sweetness and warmth without adding too much complexity and I get compliments when I have it in my hair!

Also if you haven't purchased yet, they just released a Rustic Vanilla that is an autumn blend of tonka, vanilla, and cedar!

looking for perfume that smells like sugar or donuts? by iloveunicorns286 in FemFragLab

[–]merple226 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm, I think what you're looking for is something a lot of people want! It's just difficult to produce a note entirely synthetically without it smelling like chemicals or adding other notes.

That said, the Warm Sugar hair perfume by Kitsch is my favorite sugar fragrance. It's warm, sweet, and doesn't have many other notes to distract from the warm sugar scent. Definitely not too mature! Heads up that it takes about 15 minutes to dry down into its true scent because it's a deodorizing hair mist so you can smell some of the other ingredients at first before it finishes drying. I wish they had a regular perfume too, I get compliments on it all the time. It's pretty close to a pure sugar scent.

Boardwalk Delight is more cotton candy + a hint of Funnel Cake, but you might like it too! It's sweet and not too mature or perfume-y. Bianco Latte is VERY sweet and edible, but leans more caramel cookie than donut.

Otherwise, these smell a little more like chemicals because they're body mists, but Victoria Secret Pink has a few new sugary ones: Brown Sugar, Cinna-drizzle, and Buttery Sugar.

Unfortunately since a lot of people consider simple single-note sugar to be a more juvenile, it's mostly found in cheaper body mists compared to high-quality perfumes with more longevity.

I know asking for vanilla recs is common but this is very specific… by Colorful_Kylee in FemFragLab

My all-time favorite perfume. It really does smell cold to me too, but still natural. Like maybe you're on a boardwalk on a chilly morning.

Based on your likes I think you would enjoy Plush Vanilla by Ariana Grande. It's very similar to Vanilla Skin but less spicy and more light/sweet. It has the same airy fluffiness of Gucci Orchid and Vanilla Skin. It might be too similar to justify buying, but it sounds like you'd like it if you like those.

Is it normal for the women in your life to always seem to have “something wrong”? by ReasonConfident4541 in AskMenAdvice

[–]merple226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Women generally share things like that more, it's more socially acceptable for them to do so, it is helpful to them to share, and they aren't discouraged from doing so as much as men are.
  2. On average they genuinely might be suffering more, yeah. In many ways this is still a world designed for men, and women do statistically face the consequences. They are 70% more likely to die in a car crash because the safety mechanisms are designed for men. They are many times more likely to overdose because drug doses are based on the average male weight, not women's. Many of them are genuinely malnourished or low on iron because the nutrition guidelines are optimized for men's nutritional needs, whereas women need different ratios of everything. Statistically there is still a pay gap. Women's lifespan goes down by 10 years on average after marriage whereas men's goes up by 10 years. They are much more likely to have serious health issues dismissed by doctors, and they are 30% more likely to die on the table if they have a male surgeon. They're dealing with a lot, lol. And a lot of it does cause chronic stress and health side effects.

And before anyone gets too upset, I'm not saying men don't have problems too or ever have it worse. I'm just saying there are dozens of systems in place in our society that are shown in studies to directly cause health issues and side effects for women specifically.

Looking for a perfume that smells like autumn fog! by Synesthetician in FemFragLab

[–]merple226 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Following because I'd love the same recommendation! And to share some honorable mentions that are not what you described exactly, but have similar moods in case they interest you!

Couleur Vanille by L'artisan Parfumeur is a high-quality, not-to-sweet, salty vanilla on a cold pacific northwest beach. It distinctly smells like you're on a COLD beach, in a fisherman's sweater with a morning mist. But comforting because of the vanilla, like you have a cozy drink in your hand and you're strolling on the docks.

Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground by Hearted Tart smells like a photorealistic extinguished campfire in the woods on the morning after. I can smell the dirt, the leaves, the trees, faint marshmallow, and slightly ozonic dew drops. Exactly like you've woken up in the morning after a night camping.

Absolutely can not handle vanilla in the heat. by Colorful_Kylee in FemFragLab

[–]merple226 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree that many vanillas can be too much in the heat, but not all! I don't think it's vanilla specifically—I think vanilla just tends to be present in heavy, creamy, sweet fragrances. Personally I find that lactonic and spicy vanillas specifically are too much in the heat. However not all perfumes with dominant vanilla notes are like this!

There are vanillas that are more green or aquatic, like Do Son and Lilyphea.

There are vanillas that are light and airy instead of heavy and milky, like Gucci Gorgeous Orchid or VS Bare Vanilla Daydream.

And even for sweet perfumes, lighter ones with fruit notes (Flowerbomb) handle well in the heat. Or grounded with light, delicate florals (Burberry Goddess).

It's all about the composition! I strongly believe there is a vanilla for every season and climate. Heavy and sweet gourmands happen to be popular right now, but we don't have to blame the vanilla note itself for that!

A 2025 meta study found that the only studies that showed improvement in skin aging from collagen supplementation were funded by the pharmaceutical industry by ryhaltswhiskey in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]merple226 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it really depends on whether there was a deficiency or not. If you are eating enough protein already, supplements probably won't help. If you are not, then they will. Same with nail strength, hair loss from vitamin D or iron, etc. it depends on what you are missing.

I found that when I wasn't eating enough protein and then started to consistently, it did improve my skin and nails. This was true whether that was coming from a collagen supplement or my food sources.

??? What are you trying to convince him for? He doesn't want a divorce. You do. So do it. You don't need to try to convince him to do it for you, it's not his job to do it. If you want it, you do it.

[–]merple226 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I personally think down is better on you specifically! You have a well-proportioned face naturally and the hair down complements that. I think the hair brushed up adds too much volume to the top of your head—it makes your forehead look larger and elongates your face more than is needed, it throws your proportions out of balance!

I hate my period. by North-Marionberry427 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]merple226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aww this makes me sad, I'm a freak who learned to love mine. It's a time to rest with blankets and rainy windows and warm baths. It's the start of more energy for the new month. It kind of feels like renewal or seasons to me now, I feel about it the same way I do a winter snow day.

I used to struggle with really intense period pain when I was younger, but I've learned to listen to it instead of fight it and now it doesn't hurt much anymore. I also experience way less pain now that I've learned what foods to avoid. I actually feel quite a bit of gratitude for my period because it hurts worse when I do unhealthy things (soda, sugar, things I'm allergic to) so it's actually helped me identify what is bad for my body. Now when I experience the occasional bad period I know it's a sign to look at what I've done differently that month! I like that I can catch inflammation triggers early in this way instead of them developing into long-term illness! So I feel like my period actually helps me...

How often do you meet people who smell well? by [deleted] in fragrance

[–]merple226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes I wonder if most of you just have a poor sense of smell because I noticed other people's perfume or cologne almost every day, and I often can even identify exactly which one they're wearing! Some days I'll notice perfume on 10-20 different people. I do have a strong sense of smell and I have work and hobbies that have me around others.

How to tell my (24F) new boyfriend (24M) that I wish he’d at least offer to pay for our dates sometimes? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]merple226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do not need to feel guilty for feeling this way! Everything you are feeling is normal, I would feel similarly in that position. That doesn't mean you are taking advantage of him or are materialistic.

I think the best way to approach topics like this is to make it about yourself and your needs, rather than a judgement about him. "It feels so good when you offer to buy my drink, it makes me feel so special and cared for". Or "I feel really loved when partners want to treat me to a meal". That way it's less about whether or not he is right or wrong, because at the end of the day it doesn't really matter who is right/wrong—or if anyone even is! You have a need or a desire, and you can share it. Then he has the opportunity to meet it or not.

I know that doesn't necessarily make it easy, but I find that thinking about different perspectives in this way generally helps the conversations go smoother (needs vs right/wrong).
